For that purpose, take such things as well. That symbolizes that no utensils should harm sentient beings, and auspicious words should be spoken. Abandon all the attire of a householder. When wearing the Dharma robes, may the victory banner of liberation be firm, as if scattering flowers. In order for pure conduct to reach the end of life, in order for the aggregate of discipline to be completely fulfilled, in order to obtain ordination in all lifetimes, when wearing the lower garment, examine whether signs are felt. If entrusting it to someone else, instruct so-and-so: "Learn to sew this garment well, and also do my work in passing." That person also learns and examines, and informs that there are no obstacles. This is to examine for obstacles and to give signs and attire in order to transform into this Dharma attire. Fifth, the one being ordained prostrates to the Buddha and the Khenpo, and sits squatting in front, saying this: "Your ordination is very good." In the Sutra of Joyful Ordination, it says: "Householders are like dwelling in a pit of fire, while the ordained are like dwelling in a cool house." And so on. In the Sutra of the Great Miraculous Manifestation, it says: "Desires are extremely manifest, arousing craving for sons and wives, relying on a base household, one will never obtain unsurpassed Bodhi. Those who abandon desires like abandoning heavy objects and dry firewood, abandoning craving for sons and wives, fearing household life and renouncing from the household, it is not difficult for them to obtain this supreme Bodhi. Whoever dwells in a household while obtaining this supreme Bodhi, such a Buddha has never appeared in the past, will not appear in the future, and does not exist now. Abandoning royal power like abandoning the ashes of spittle, desiring solitude and dwelling in solitary places, abandoning afflictions, destroying the armies of Mara, attaining the stainless, unconditioned Buddha." Thus it is said. Furthermore, in the profound sutras and Vinaya Pitaka, etc., the faults of dwelling in a household and the inconceivable benefits of ordination are spoken of. Therefore, ordination is superior to householders and is the basis of all qualities. The thought is to abandon samsara and desire to attain Nirvana, abandoning the precepts of householders and

Thinking of relying on the precepts of ordination; thinking of abandoning the signs and attire of householders, and properly taking and grasping the signs and attire of ordination; thinking of abandoning hope and reliance on worldly gods, and regarding the Three Jewels as the supreme gods; even thinking of abandoning the name of a householder and taking the name of an ordained person, relying on these five aspects of acceptance and rejection, thereby abandoning the attire of a householder and definitely grasping the attire of ordination, generating this genuine, non-artificial thought, and repeatedly guiding them. Regarding changing the name: change it to end with the name of the monastery, or auspiciousness, fame, goodness, good fortune, or the name of the Khenpo. Start calling from that name and repeat it. Khenpo, please listen, my name is..., from this time until the end of my life, I take refuge in the Buddha, the supreme of the two-legged; I take refuge in the Dharma, the supreme of those free from desire; I take refuge in the Sangha, the supreme of the assemblies. Bhagavan, Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha Shakyamuni Buddha, Shakya Lion, King of the Shakyas, Lord, I will ordain after you, abandoning the signs of a householder, and properly taking the signs of ordination. Repeat this two or three times. The Khenpo should say: "Well done!" The ordained person should say: "Very good!" Thus, after the preliminary rituals of ordination and novice vows are completed, the Khenpo, to someone who is skilled in the ritual of conferring novice vows, etc., as said at the time of ordination, to a Bhikshu who possesses the ten qualities, a great virtuous one who diligently upholds the Vinaya and holds the Sutras, says: "Please grant the novice vows to this venerable one." Having said this, he entrusts it to him. He asks: "Is it completely pure?" Answer as before. Secondly, the actual ritual, the one to be ordained as a novice should be made to prostrate to the Buddha and the Acharya, and then made to sit squatting in front, saying: "It is very good that you have ordained and want to seek the novice vows. However, it also requires that there be no obstacles, and the Khenpo has already ascertained that there are none, and"
