That was composed by Rangjung Dorje in an easy-to-understand manner. By this virtue, may all sentient beings attain the state of omniscience, and may the Victorious One's teachings abide for a long time. This was composed by the Omniscient Rangjung Dorje on the fifth day of the eighth month of the Pig year in the secluded place of Great Bliss. It is complete in meaning and easy to understand, and although it is easy to grasp, for the sake of those who like elaboration and those of low intelligence who need to rely on grammar to understand, a little bit of indispensable meaning and grammar has been added. Urged again and again by many learned scholars, the greatly learned Bhikshu Dharma speaker Palchok Tamche Ley Nampar Gyalwai Lha, based on the ritual composed by the glorious Rangjung, added some things that should be added in the form of an appendix. It was composed in Lekshey Ling in the Earth Male Tiger year (uncertain), and the scribe was Dawa O Namgyal. May this also quickly dry up the great ocean of suffering of samsara. शुभमस्तु सर्व जगताम् (śubhamastu sarva jagatām, May all the world be auspicious). Homage to the Omniscient One. Now, for the sake of benefiting householders, I will briefly explain the method of applying the precepts that arise from the context of discipline. If there are lay practitioners who only seek to take refuge in the Three Jewels, then arrange the supports such as the Buddha's image and offerings as available. The disciple should prostrate three times to the teacher and the lama, and sit in a squatting or kneeling position with palms together. The lama says: It is very good that you are taking refuge in the Three Jewels. The Tale of the Pig says: Whoever goes for refuge to the Buddha, will not go to the lower realms, and even after abandoning the body of a god, will be born in the body of a human. Similarly, it should be said in relation to the Dharma and the Sangha as well. The Ornament of the Sutras also says: Various fears become destruction, all gatherings and vehicles, various sufferings of the lower realms, those who have gone without protection, protect from all births, deaths, afflictions, and actions. As it is said, the terrible fears that arise from having no refuge, etc.
