This is such-and-such year. It has five periods: winter, spring, summer, short summer, and long summer. As stated in the Root Sutra: "These are the five: winter, spring, summer, short summer, and long summer. The first two are four months each. The next is one month. The one after that is one day and night. The last is a little more than three months." Therefore, winter is four months, spring is four months, summer is one month, short summer is one day and night, and long summer is three months less one day, all of which belong to such-and-such year. The month is such-and-such month, which has two phases, the waxing and waning moon, belonging to such-and-such month. It has fourteen or fifteen days, belonging to such-and-such month. It has twenty-two parts of day and night, namely morning, noon, afternoon, the first watch of the night, half of the first watch, half of the noon watch, the last watch, half of the last watch, before dawn, at dawn, before sunrise, at sunrise, the sun rising one-eighth, the sun rising one-quarter, before noon, the sun remaining one-quarter, the sun remaining one-eighth, before sunset, at sunset, before the stars appear, and when the stars appear, among these twenty-two parts, it is such-and-such time. If it is daytime, then the shadow is the length of such-and-such person or foot at such-and-such time. If it is nighttime, there is no need to mention the shadow, so it is about this time of night. In this auspicious place, such-and-such abbot and master, and among the Sangha who are worthy to complete the assembly of faithful monks and are complete in number, have well received the full Bhikshu vows. Therefore, offer to the aforementioned places of veneration as is proper. Accept the offerings made by those who are not places of veneration. Those who are of the same time do not need to prostrate to each other. Seating and possessions go to the one who came first. The assignment of duties, etc., should be done from the back forward, as stated in the Garland of Flowers Sutra: "Even if there are two or three, who take ordination at the same time, even if there is a difference in age, there is no elder or younger. There is no need for prostration between them, possessions and seating...
