Not falling into the extreme of what? Because it is established by one's own knowing and experiencing, it does not fall into the extreme of annihilation. Now, when the mind is relaxed in its own state, thoughts naturally subside, and in the unobstructed clarity of awareness, it is clear and lucid, self-knowing and self-illuminating. This is what is called the intention of the Buddha's mind. It is called the nature of sentient beings' minds. It is called the reality of things. This unobstructed, clear and lucid awareness, which is one's own mind, is what the lama reveals. The student is the one who understands it. This is what is called recognizing the nature of the mind, which was not known before. The one who becomes a Buddha, the one who wanders in samsara, joy and sorrow, in short, all the creators of existence and peace are this. Before, it was obscured by thoughts and not known. Now, it is known because the stream of thoughts has ceased. The mind, that which has no object of grasping, is the nature of the mind. Although it is empty, it is clear and bright, that is the characteristic of the mind. The essence of emptiness and clarity of awareness is the essence. Make a naked recognition of that. It is the introduction to the co-emergent nature of mind. The jewel crown of all Mahamudra. Co-emergent bliss is the union itself. The way to entwine supreme liberation. Here, it arises in the appearance of letters. Extracted from the words of the Victorious Son, recorded by Gyamapa. (83) The instruction manual of the Fivefold Mahamudra. The instruction of the Fivefold Mahamudra is: with refuge and bodhicitta as the preliminary. Bodhicitta. Yidam deity. Lama. Mahamudra. Dedication. In the practice of the Fivefold. In this session, use body, speech, and mind for virtue, meditate from the depths of your heart. Instantly, transform yourself into union with Vajravarahi. Visualize the form clearly and the pride firmly. On the lotus and sun seat on the crown of the head. Vajradhara is the essence of all refuge. Pray to all sentient beings, the precious lama. Pray like this. Finally, dissolve into oneself. In the state of the blending of body, speech, and mind. Without focusing on anything, in the state of being free from dullness and agitation, without scattering anywhere, clear. Remain naked. Seal with dedication. All five essentials are gathered, generating joy. Supreme liberation, showing the path of liberation. The practice of the union of skillful means and wisdom.

Key points. Elaborated in writing. Extracted from the instructions of Cyennga-wa. (84) Instructions on the Four-Syllable Mahamudra. The instructions on the Four-Syllable Mahamudra are: First, precede with refuge and bodhicitta. Determine the foundation, show the method of abiding, cut off deviations, and show the way to practice. The mind initially has no place of arising, primordially empty and rootless. In the middle, there is no place of dwelling, movement dissolves into emptiness. In the end, there is no place to go, movement is naturally liberated, not obstructed by anything, and not established in anything. Not tainted by the faults of samsara, it is inherently Buddha. There are six methods of abiding: the body in the seven-point posture of Vairochana. Like a great garuda soaring in the sky, abide in the uncorrected, natural state, without effort or practice. Like the ocean without waves, abide in a state of mind without agitation. Like the sun without clouds, abide equally in a state of complete clarity and radiance. Like a child looking at a temple, abide with clarity unceasing and without grasping. Like the waves of water, recognize all arising sensations as mind and abide. Like a bird flying in the sky, leave awareness without trace. Cutting off deviations: Do not hope for enlightenment upwards, do not fear samsara downwards, do not cling to emptiness in between, and decisively determine in your mind that there is nothing to do. Showing the way to practice: There are six daily yogas, namely the yoga of increasing appearance during the day, the yoga of taking desirable objects as companions in the afternoon and evening, the yoga of gathering the four faculties in the evening, the yoga of placing knowledge into a vase at midnight, the yoga of sprinkling awareness with clarity at dawn, and the yoga of completely releasing wisdom at the time of death. The four syllables of A-ma-na-si. Foundation, method of abiding, cutting off deviations. The method of showing the way to practice is recorded in writing. Extracted from the instructions of Yakde Panchen. (85) Instructions on Introducing the Three Kayas. The instructions on introducing the three kayas are: First, precede with refuge and bodhicitta. Visualize yourself on a throne of lotus and moon, with Brahma, Indra, Upendra, and Mahabala lifting the four corners of the throne in a posture of carrying a palanquin, without bowing. On top of the throne adorned with celestial garments and jeweled ornaments, Shakyamuni Buddha, golden in color, possessing the marks and signs of perfection, wearing the three Dharma robes, making the earth-touching mudra and the meditation mudra, seated in the vajra posture, starting from the crown of the head.
