From that state, let the mind rest in its own place. If you cannot grasp the key points of resting in these states, it will become an obstacle to the mind not resting. All discursive thoughts will run wild. At that time, the method to stop discursive thoughts is: from the beginning, do not stop them, but recognize the discursive thoughts. Through meditation, do not be annoyed by the key points, grasp the key points and meditate, so that thoughts will become more and more subtle, and abiding will arise. No matter what you do, for those bad thoughts, like before, gently release the thoughts, and without losing memory, let the thoughts naturally transform. Let it be as much as possible. Do not let any thought run wild, recognize the arising of each thought. Recognize the arising of the second thought. Recognize every arising thought. In this way, thoughts will become the support for grasping one's own mind, and thus the continuation of thoughts will be interrupted again. After the thoughts are interrupted, abiding will become stronger. Sometimes the state of abiding does not last. If many scattered thoughts arise and consciousness becomes confused, it means that the body's energy is exhausted, so nourish the body, rest for a day or two, and then meditate. Nutritious food is very important. Now, meditate like this, without any object, target, or support for meditation. Let the mind relax naturally, without artificiality, without a master, without effort, meditate like a fool. Let go naturally. In that state, maintain a little awareness without distraction, and do not meditate on anything else, let it exist naturally. Shorten the meditation sessions compared to before. Rest a little during abiding and breaks. Then meditate like that again. Meditate in four sessions like that. In all the meditation intervals, continuously maintain awareness. Conduct yourself as before. When getting up from meditation, and when resting, if you ask how it feels, answer: When resting, the mind does not move anywhere, and when getting up, consciousness also becomes slow and relaxed, feeling relaxed. The feeling is vague. Relax without effort. If you say that if you do not deliberately put consciousness into the object, you cannot grasp the details, then shamatha has arisen. At that time, slightly increase the clarity of consciousness, and keep it clear and bright. In that state, do not be distracted, maintain awareness. Rest a little during clear abiding and breaks. Then meditate like that again. In all the meditation intervals, maintain not leaving that state. Conduct yourself as before. Now, abiding like this, after the continuation of thoughts is interrupted, when meditation becomes better, pay more attention to the essence of that mind.

Look! What is the nature of mind itself like? Determine it well for yourself. Then quietly relax and rest. Meditate like that again. Determine that well, is there clinging in the mind? Is there emptiness without clinging? Is there emptiness where there is nothing at all? Within emptiness, is there a clear, naked awareness? What is it like? Look at yourself and bring some experience! All the key points of the instructions are here. If you ask what the nature of mind is like, and say it is emptiness, although you have only seen one aspect, you cannot identify it. Is there emptiness where there is nothing at all? Is there a clear, bright awareness? Look well. Without truly seeing, you cannot identify it. If you say there is non-clinging awareness, then you have seen the nature. Now, the identification: Generally, meditation has two aspects, shamatha and vipashyana. Shamatha and vipashyana are just words. Shamatha seems to be abiding, and vipashyana seems to be clear, but thinking like that is just understanding. Those are of no use. We meditators need to experience nakedly in awareness. Now, to identify it for you: When your mind is naturally relaxed, conceptual thoughts naturally subside, and the mind naturally abides, is that so? That is called shamatha. Now, most of the instruction masters or meditators meditate verbally. They are self-righteous and show off to others, but that way they cannot meditate even a little. That is also unavoidable. In the state of abiding, without dullness, non-mentation, distraction, or agitation, without being completely in equanimity, the nature of mind is like this, do not speak in words, do not think in mind, do not analyze with discrimination, do not express in language, there is no clinging at all, although there is no clinging, there is clear and uninterrupted awareness, clear, vivid, naked, natural, is there not something that you have not seen but need to see, have not experienced but need to experience, something that you already have, is there not something clear and non-clinging that cannot be expressed? That is called vipashyana. Shamatha and vipashyana, although the words come before and after, meditate without difference in meaning. In that instant, complete meditation, arising without fault, is called that. That is free from all fabrications,
