Cutting through conceptual proliferation, allowing the path to arise, severing attachment is the measure of decisiveness. (3) Likewise, if attachment, joy, and aversion arise towards the Dharma, then the lama is good. If attachment arises thinking that the Dharma is profound, the path will appear, and recite ཕཊ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning). Relax the mind, completely cut off joy, recognize that the mind is without attachment, generate the path of joy, and abide in the nature of ཕཊ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), that is cutting through. Recognizing one's own nature is the measure of decisiveness. (4) Everything gathers in pride, thinking oneself great, thinking oneself small, are all with attachment. Thinking of happiness, thinking of unhappiness, are all without attachment. Comfort and warmth, etc., are all joy. Abide naturally in the nature of pride, recite ཕཊ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), settle the mind upon it, and thereby recognize one's own nature. Thus, the four maras are liberated in the realm of the Mother of Emptiness, and thereafter, the path of equal taste arises. Without separating from the nature, practice Chöd in all solitary places, thereby blending equality and after without distinction. The practice of Chöd is the most profound essence of all practices. When contemplating, it increases joy. It is the most supreme instruction for liberating bonds. To write it down is truly amazing. The above is extracted from the meaning instructions. (7) Instructions on the Three Essential Points. The instructions on the Three Essential Points are: First, take refuge and generate bodhicitta. On the lotus and moon seat on the crown of one's head in this life, visualize the essence as the lama, the form as a crystal stupa with a thousand doors, with a thousand Buddhas residing in each door. Recite: I pray to the precious lama, the essence of the unborn Dharmakaya. To the essence of the unceasing Sambhogakaya... To the essence of the unlocalized Nirmanakaya... To the essence of the Three Kayas of Great Bliss... etc. Then, in the center of the red heart lotus, visualize Jowo Khasarpani (name of a Buddha image) one cubit high, arising from ཧྲཱིཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning). On the petals, visualize a thousand ཨཱཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning) like dewdrops on blades of grass. Recite ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧྲཱིཿཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), visualizing the ཨཱཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning) syllables dissolving into nectar, filling the body, purifying sins and obscurations. Finally, rest the mind in the unborn state. Then, from the time of death, have the yidam deity chop off the skull of the physical body and place it on three skull supports. Fill it with the remains of the body, and recite ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning). Purify the impure habits, transform them into uncontaminated nectar, and offer it to the guests of samsara and nirvana, with Maitreya as the chief. Finally, from the heart of Maitreya, a channel of light and an iron hook...

In the midst of all that occurred, he, in the form of the self-arisen Khasarpani, transferred to Tushita like a shooting star. He thought of listening to the Dharma in the presence of Maitreya. Now, regarding this bardo appearance, ascertain that this is the bardo state. Meditate on the form deity, the sound mantra, and the co-emergent, innate thoughts and awareness, severing the connection between them completely. All the essential meanings are well-explained, with the wisdom of joy and self-liberation, the unsurpassed meaning of Maitreya's intent, here set down in written form. This instruction on the three essential meanings is extracted from the writings of Khro Phu Lotsawa. (8) The teaching on resting the nature of mind. The teaching on resting the nature of mind is: preceded by refuge and bodhicitta. Establish the vajra posture of the body, endowed with the seven characteristics of Vairochana. The expression of speech: do not intentionally exhale, do not intentionally inhale, relax in the state of natural breath flow. Relax in the state of non-distraction of mind. The meditation of mind: do not chase after past thoughts, abandon past consciousness. Do not welcome the future, sever the connection of mind. Now, without calculating good or bad, maintain the natural state of awareness, initially without distraction, like a swordsman entering the battlefield. With moderate focus and relaxation, without scattering anywhere, establish the boundary of mindfulness, maintain awareness of the non-erroneous nature of mind. In between, do not search, like a wise man herding yaks, do not intentionally grasp, do not intentionally scatter. Let the mind relax in its natural, comfortable state, without alteration, loose and open. Do not arrange work in the mind, do not intentionally fabricate, relax in the ungrasping dharmadhatu. Finally, like a bird flying from a ship, looking up is the sky, looking down is also the sky, without finding a landing place or support, just as it returns to the original ship, wherever the mind flies, guard it without control, exhausting the scattering. After exhaustion, in the manner of resting, in the natural, unfabricated state, recognize the self-arising power of the beginningless, abide with conviction, that is the key point. The mind, weary from beginningless time, is the joyful garden of constant rest, the supreme essence of liberation from bondage, is a symbol of the unconditioned place of abiding. Also extracted from the teachings of Yangtsewa. (9) The teaching on the three types of individuals. The teaching on the three types of individuals is: refuge
