Salen Bodhisattva, three types of individuals: abandoning actions, abandoning the world, and having no possessions. The duration is three days for the highest, two days for the middle, and one day for the lowest. The method of transmission: do not introduce the higher path until the lower path is completely accomplished. The result of abandoning actions is: the highest in this very life, the middle at the time of death, and the lowest arises in the bardo through merit. The essence of all pacifying practices, this joyful speech platform of the mind, from the system of liberation, self-liberated, the supreme essence is thoroughly extracted. Extracted from the instruction manual of Rongtön Sheja Kunrig. (22) A guide to the beginning, middle, and end of the stages of meditation. The guide to the beginning, middle, and end of the stages of meditation is as follows: Having first taken refuge and generated bodhichitta, with the understanding of impermanence of compounded phenomena and the suffering of contaminated aggregates, as taught in the first turning of the wheel, develop faith in distinguishing between good and bad, acceptance and rejection of karma and its results. Through contemplation, with the conviction that results definitely arise from causes, diligently engage in abandoning evil and cultivating virtue for oneself and others. Abandon bad friends who act recklessly regarding karma and its results, and rely on virtuous spiritual friends who teach the infallibility of karma and its results. Diligently engage in the path of listening, contemplation, and meditation, and cultivate joy in a place that possesses the qualities of having accomplished the commitment of body, speech, and mind. From the smallest misdeeds, practice acceptance and rejection, and it is crucial to purify one's own mind with discipline. In a secluded hermitage on a remote mountain praised by the Buddhas, with a mind renouncing samsara, and with the courage of not being attached or clinging to anything, settle the mind within. Place before you any object found, such as a piece of wood, a pebble, or a flower, as a support for meditation, as taught in the intermediate turning of the wheel. To prevent the mind from wandering to external objects, with single-pointed concentration, sit in the vajra posture, with hands in meditative equipoise, and the spine straight. Gaze at the object of focus with the eyes, slightly tuck the chin, and lightly touch the upper and lower lips. Do not follow after any external conditions. Rest clearly and brightly, and with the sword of discriminating wisdom, completely sever the tree of conceptual thought. Rest all phenomena in the state of emptiness and selflessness. Never allow yourself to fall under the power of dullness or agitation. Generate awareness, and do not taste the flavor of the peace of nirvana. Uproot the root of destruction, the clinging to self.
