To the mouths of the Dharma protectors and guardians, Oṃ Āḥ Hūṃ. To the mouths of the local deities, Oṃ Āḥ Hūṃ. To the mouths of the six classes of beings, Oṃ Āḥ Hūṃ. By reciting this, think that all are satisfied. And then, all of these transform into the bodies of Avalokiteśvara and Tārā, and meditate on uttering the sound of the six syllables, "di ri ri". All of these are illusion. Meditate thinking they are dreams, and that even those are nothing other than what is constructed by one's own mind, and are not established separately. One should practice in the nature of non-truth. Secondly, the general training in illusory body is that all phenomena, the entirety of existence and peace, which are encompassed by the conventional, are impermanent, unstable, and like illusion and dreams. The way to meditate on non-truth is also like this: Where do these phenomena of existence and peace come from? Where do they go? By examining and analyzing in this way, they do not come from anywhere, nor do they go anywhere, nor do they remain anywhere. They are merely appearances of pure or impure mind. For example, like illusion, dreams, emanations, and cities of gandharvas, they are merely appearances, and one should know that they are without inherent existence. Then, from what does this cycle of existence arise? It arises from grasping at self and what belongs to self. Does grasping at self and what belongs to self arise from the five aggregates? Or does it arise from the parts of the body? Then, one should examine from what that self arises. Then, seeing that the cycle of existence arises from grasping at "I" and "mine", is grasping at "I" and "mine" something that is past? Or is it something that is future? Or is it something that is present? One should examine in this way. Of these, the past is past, so the self is not established. The future has not yet arisen, so it cannot be made an object of focus. The present is the nature of momentary awareness, and is not established even for an instant, so it is emptiness. Therefore, one should know that the root of the cycle of existence, grasping at self and what belongs to self, is without inherent existence. Although it is not established, it appears as such, like illusion, dreams, and emanations. Born from conditions, like echoes. Like the moon in water and reflections in a mirror. Impermanent and moving, like lightning in the sky. Like dew, hailstones, clouds, and mist. Appearing but without inherent existence, like optical illusions, rainbows, and cities of gandharvas. Therefore, although they do not exist, all these external appearances are mind...

It is merely an illusion. For example, although some people have many different dreams while sleeping, those dreams have no inherent existence and are not established. All phenomena should be understood in the same way. Having understood all phenomena in this way, one should strive to be impartial to the eight worldly concerns. Thus, the general training in illusion is completed. Third, the specific training has three aspects: Training the body's appearance as emptiness involves placing a mirror in front of you and allowing yourself to be reflected in it. Then, praise and criticize the reflection, and observe whether there is joy or displeasure. If there is displeasure, train in the illusory body in that way. Furthermore, visualize on your right side the Lord of Death, Yama, in a hideous form, chopping at you with a blazing axe, and on your left side, a delightful goddess anointing you with sandalwood paste. If feelings of liking or disliking arise, examine the nature of those feelings and recognize that Yama and the goddess are merely appearances of your own mind. The mind has no inherent existence, appearances are illusory and like dreams, and all thoughts of attachment and aversion are realized as equal in nature because they lack inherent existence. This is the training in the illusory body. Second, training speech to be like an echo involves going to a place where there is an echo and calling out to the echo. Just as the sound of your call is returned, it appears as an external sound, but it is not established externally. Therefore, all sounds should be trained to be equal like an echo. Third, training the mind to be like dreams, illusions, and mirages involves recognizing that all unestablished phenomena, when deluded, appear to exist, but in reality, they have no inherent existence. When examining their essence, they are like the sky. Whatever thoughts arise, train in them as selfless, without grasping, clear emptiness, and beyond conceptualization. Fourth, training in the pure illusory body involves meditating on all appearances as the Great Compassionate One, Avalokiteśvara. Meditate on all sounds as the sound of the six-syllable mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ मणि पद्मे हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om! Jewel in the Lotus! Hum!). These deities have not come from anywhere, nor will they go anywhere. Meditate on them as merely appearances of your own mind, like dreams and illusions, and abide in freedom from elaboration. Thus, the training in the pure illusory body is completed. Fourth, regarding nighttime dreams, there are four points: First, the preliminary practice for dreams is to accumulate merit and gather accumulations as before. Second, training in dreams, in general,
