Secondly, the essential instructions for the time of death, and the teaching on how even if one dies during meditation, the power of yogic habituation can be integrated. The first part is: From now on, when I am dying, as earth dissolves into water, many signs will appear, such as smoke, and various physical sensations such as fainting, numbness, and trembling, various pure sensations such as trembling and heavy breathing, and various mental sensations such as clarity and unclearness, anger and attachment will arise. Having recognized these as the manifestations of one's own nature, one should think of merging the mind into the clear light, and connect with this. Thinking that one should meditate in this way even at the time of one's own death, meditate on the six branches that have been mentioned earlier. Whatever physical sensations, verbal sensations, mental sensations, or visual sensations arise, think that the meditation method at the time of death is also like this. Recognize that whatever experience arises is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding, and rest in equanimity. In particular, it is very important to cultivate this intention in the moment of falling asleep and in the clear light of sleep. This is the forty-ninth contemplation guide. When death actually comes, whatever visions appear, remain in that state of immovability, possessing the three aspects, and recognize the realm that is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding. Similarly, whatever sensations of pleasure or pain arise in the body and speech, or whatever emotions of joy, sorrow, attachment, or aversion arise in the mind, or whatever sounds are heard in the ears, direct awareness towards them through the three aspects of immovability, and cultivate in awareness that nature that is not established in anything. If one is a yogi who is accustomed to practices below the life-force, as soon as the signs of death appear and one knows that death is inevitable, one should exert effort to remain in equipoise on vase breathing and the empty form, and make efforts to forcefully bring the winds and mind into the central channel. Through this, the signs of clear light and the experiences of bliss and emptiness will spread extensively and become vast. In this state, it is also possible to transfer consciousness into the realm of reality. Even if one does not transfer at that time, one can continue to meditate on the previous practice. From the time the stages of dissolution begin to appear, do as much vajra recitation as possible. By this, one will definitely realize the clear light of death as one's own nature. If one feels inclined and needs to at this time, the stages of dissolution of the elements and the classification of the four visions can be explained in detail. Contemplation guide.
