The practice of the Hundred Syllable Mantra to purify obstacles and obscurations, and the Guru Yoga as a method to liberate the continuum. Firstly, the preliminary practice of taking refuge, which precedes all paths, is crucial. By taking refuge during the practice of the path, obstacles on the path are cleared away. By taking refuge during the time of learning, the foundation of learning is established. By taking refuge when generating the supreme Bodhicitta, one develops the special mind of the Great Vehicle. By taking refuge when requesting empowerment, the ordinary continuum is ripened. Even when external and internal fears arise, by taking refuge, all fears are dispelled. Therefore, the venerable master said, "Entrust your mind, heart, and breast to the Three Jewels. Surely blessings will arise, Dingriwa." Since he spoke of immeasurable benefits, it is important to always take refuge in the Three Jewels. In the sky directly in front of your crown, on a lion throne, lotus, sun, and moon seat, visualize the root guru, the embodiment of all refuge, in the form of the Great Vajradhara, surrounded by Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, heroes, and dakinis, like dense clouds. With sincere faith, take refuge, thinking that all sentient beings, self and others, are doing so with intense devotion. With the intention to liberate all beings, until the essence of enlightenment is reached, I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Please always grant your blessings. After reciting as much as possible, gather the retinue into the root guru, who then dissolves into your crown, and remain in that state as long as possible. Secondly, it is necessary to cultivate loving-kindness and compassion. The venerable master said, "The beings of the six realms are all kind parents. Cultivate loving-kindness and compassion, Dingriwa." As he said, first contemplate how your parents in this life have shown kindness. Likewise, since there is no sentient being who has not been your parent, all of them have been your parents countless times. Thinking that they have all been purely kind, and that although these beings desire only happiness and joy, they constantly experience various sufferings due to their lack of skill, and furthermore, they are now engaging in the great cause of suffering—negative actions—they are truly pitiable. However, merely placing them in a state of compassion is not beneficial. All of these

From the place of suffering, may I alone deliver [beings] and establish them in unsurpassed enlightenment. For that purpose, I will strive to attain the state that can liberate all beings, thinking this from the depths of my heart. With wisdom and compassion: With diligence, for the sake of sentient beings, I will abide before the Buddhas and generate the supreme bodhicitta. Thus, with intense aspiration, meditate as much as possible, and finally, rest in equipoise in a state where neither objects nor sentient beings are perceived. The third part has two sections. First, the mandala for practice: If the material is precious like gold or silver, it should not be smaller than four fingers; if it is ordinary like a wooden stick, the mandala with characteristics should not be smaller than one cubit, and it should be sprinkled with fragrant water. Hold the mandala with the right hand and rotate it clockwise with the left hand, reciting ༀ་བཛྲ་བྷཱུ་མི་ཨཱཿ ཧཱུྃ། (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ वज्र भूमि आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ vajra bhūmi āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, Vajra Ground, Ah, Hum), transforming the mandala into a great ocean, the source of jewels. Immediately afterwards, without separating from that state, touch the edge of the mandala with the little finger and recite ༀ་བཛྲ་རཀྵ་རཀྵ་ཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ वज्र रक्ष रक्ष हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ vajra rakṣa rakṣa hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, Vajra, Protect, Protect, Hum), visualizing the protective circle. Then, recite ༀ་ན་མོ་རཏྣ་གུ་རུ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ नमो रत्न गुरु आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ namo ratna guru āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, Homage, Jewel, Guru, Ah, Hum), placing one heap in the center of the mandala. Recite ༀ་ན་མོ་རཏྣ་ཏྲ་ཡཱ་ཡ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ नमो रत्न त्रयाय आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ namo ratna trayāya āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, Homage, Jewel, Three Jewels, Ah, Hum), placing one heap in front. Recite ༀ་ན་མོ་མ་ཧཱ་ཤྲཱི་ཧེ་རུ་ཀཱ་ཡ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ། (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ नमो महा श्री हेरुक आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ namo mahā śrī heruka āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, Homage, Great, Glorious, Heruka, Ah, Hum), placing one heap to the right. Recite ༀ་ན་མོ་བཛྲ་ཌཱ་ཀི་ནཱི་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ། (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ नमो वज्र डाकिनी आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ namo vajra ḍākinī āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, Homage, Vajra, Dakini, Ah, Hum), placing one heap in the back. Recite ༀ་ན་མོ་དྷརྨ་པཱ་ལ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ། (Tibetan, Devanagari: ओँ नमो धर्म पाल आः हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ namo dharma pāla āḥ hūṃ, Literal meaning: Om, Homage, Dharma, Protector, Ah, Hum), placing one heap to the left. Visualize that all five places transform into lotus stems, each blooming with wide and beautiful lotus petals. On top of the central lotus stem, on a lion throne, lotus, sun, and moon cushion, sits one's root guru, surrounded by all the gurus whom one considers objects of devotion. Similarly, in front, on a wide lion throne, sits Shakyamuni Buddha surrounded by the Buddhas of the ten directions. The Dharma Jewel is presented in the form of stacked books. The Sangha Jewel consists of Bodhisattvas, noble ones, Shravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas. To the right, on the seat of Mount Meru, lotus, sun, moon, Vajrabhairava, and Kalachakra, sits Hevajra Yab-Yum, surrounded by the Yidam deities of the four classes of tantra. In the back, on a crossed dharma source and corpse cushion, sits Vajrayogini, surrounded by seventy-two thousand action and wisdom dakinis. To the left, on the seat of enemies and obstacles.
