Going towards the middle, going towards the upper middle. The second has two parts: First, the unchanging, decisive view, the pledge of the instruction is: When one has a decisive understanding of self-awareness as the stainless Dharmakaya, even wise and learned scholars cannot find a higher tenet through intellectual analysis. By meditating in this way with faith and devotion, one understands the meaning and gains certainty of faith. Second, the pledge of the swift, quick, and unswerving practice is: Because all appearances and thoughts on the path of mindfulness in practice arise as wisdom, by meditating on this, one quickly attains the result in one lifetime. Because it is the single path traversed by all Buddhas of the three times, it is without deviation to other paths. Third, the pledge of stability, ultimate completion, and the manifestation of the result is: Having been introduced to self-awareness as the stainless Dharmakaya, from faith to the completion of practice, one does not need to seek a Buddha from elsewhere, but one's own Buddhahood will become manifest. Fourth, the pledge of temporary aversion and the balancing of the elements is: Cultivating whatever arises as stainless, balancing the elements such as balancing the earth element with wind. Also, in all aspects of dwelling, enjoyment, conduct, food, friends, and meditation, abandoning attachment and maintaining balance. Fifth, the pledge of maintaining warmth, like a skilled doctor, is: Beginners should meditate in short sessions with many repetitions, integrating practice with conduct once accustomed. When matured, one should practice without fixed rules in all aspects of dwelling, friends, and conduct. Furthermore, knowing all inner and outer phenomena thoroughly is like the eye of an Indian mask. By taking all outer and inner secrets, sickness, happiness, and suffering as they arise onto oneself, the stains of the two obscurations and habitual tendencies are purified by the stream of self-aware, stainless awareness. Sixth, the pledge of the ultimate completion of experience and realization, like reaching the Golden Land, is: Just as one cannot find ordinary stones in the Golden Land, when the yogi's skill in experience and realization grows, all appearances and thoughts are experienced as the unborn nature of reality. Even when searching for thoughts, they cannot be found, and one will reach ultimate completion in the nature of reality. Seventh, the pledge of needs and desires arising, like a wish-fulfilling jewel, is: For the yogi who practices in this way, what need is there to mention that all desired things such as food and wealth will arise? Having purified the stains of karma and the two obscurations, both common and supreme accomplishments

Swiftly attain accomplishment, and through the activity of the union of the two bodies, both benefits will spontaneously arise. Eighth, the agreement regarding the practice of joy and sorrow at the time of death: When death comes, clinging to relatives, wealth, or anything else will only bind you. Once I am dead, these are others' possessions, so who will rejoice? Even if you cling to relatives and wealth, your karma is exhausted, and the force of your prayers is complete, so there is no power to remain together even for a moment. Therefore, thinking, "Who will rejoice?" completely cut off all attachment and clinging. Like picking your own head from among a hundred heads, exert yourself in practice, removing the three poisons. Maintain it without distraction. Recognize and observe the signs of death, and immediately apply the practice to them. Abandon attachment to the body and meditate on the yidam. Whatever arises in the mind, recognize it and rely on it without separation. If you become discouraged, know that in the emptiness of awareness, there is no death. Whatever appears is the stainless dharmakaya, so take pride in it. Now, dying in the company of such profound instructions, you will attain the luminous dharmakaya, so generate courage with hope and joy, and do not fall into dullness or torpor. If fear or terror arises, know that "Death is called conceptual thought, which leads to the realm of the dakinis." Therefore, offer all your body and possessions, without any selfish clinging, to the lama, the Three Jewels, the yidam, the dakinis, and the dharma protectors for the benefit of all sentient beings, and meditate on the lama above your head. Visualize yourself as the yidam and pray: "For the benefit of myself and all sentient beings, please bless me to attain the luminous dharmakaya at the time of death. Please bless me so that the impure illusions of the bardo may arise as the pure sambhogakaya, thereby attaining the sambhogakaya. Please bless me so that I may consciously take rebirth as a nirmanakaya, thereby attaining the indivisible three kayas of buddhahood." Pray intensely in this way, and through the power of my prayers to the lama and the Three Jewels, and through the connection of practicing these profound instructions, at the time of death, in the bardo, or when taking rebirth as a nirmanakaya for the benefit of sentient beings, generate the great aspiration to benefit others, and without following any illusions, practice without distraction. By practicing in this way, you will be escorted by the strong intention and recognition from before, and the luminosity in which the eighty innate conceptual thoughts have ceased will welcome you, and you will meet people you have known before.
