If one wonders what this is, generally, everyone needs an auspicious connection related to devotion to the lama. However, the virtuous practices during the day can be cultivated through one's own effort. Even in the state of dreaming, there are various appearances of dreams themselves, as well as coarse thoughts and conceptualizations. Because these exist, the imprints of the day are carried into dreams. Since there is also something to be attained through one's own effort and aspiration, it is not solely dependent on blessings. In the state of deep sleep, there is no thought or effort. Therefore, the luminosity of sleep, unless it arises naturally at that very moment, cannot be cultivated otherwise. Therefore, one relies on the auspicious connection of focusing on the key points of the body, and the accumulation of blessings from the lama and the yidam deity. Thus, these four preliminaries, because there is no new object of focus that has not been shown before, the section on objects of focus is not listed separately. It is fine whether one session is completed, or two or three sessions, etc., however it is done. Secondly, the main practice is divided into four sections: grasping the clear light, utilizing the path, blending, and the ultimate. The first section has three parts: grasping the clear light by relying on the selflessness mother, grasping the clear light by relying on the letter A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A), and grasping the clear light by relying on the lama. The first of these is that the entire preliminary part of the session is similar to what was said in the chapter on the illusory body, but the difference is that even if one visualizes the root lama as his actual form, one should visualize his appearance with hair piled up, six bone ornaments, and a tiger skin wrapped around the waist, adorned with charnel ground attire. If one visualizes Vajradhara, one should visualize Vajradhara Heruka, a three-eyed deity who is both peaceful and wrathful, complete with the eight charnel ground adornments on his body. During the supplication, add the ending, "Please grant that I may grasp the clear light." After that, temporarily visualize oneself as appearing ordinary, above the brain, below the skull, at the crown of the head, there is a lotus and sun cushion about half the size of a lentil. On top of that, visualize Vajra Nairatmya, matching that cushion, with a blue body, holding a curved knife, skull cup, and khatvanga, in a dancing posture with her left leg extended, a small body with well-defined limbs. At her heart, visualize a white A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A), as thin, clear, and shimmering as if written with a fine brush. From that, light radiates

Radiating Light. First, purify the mind, which is of the nature of delusion. Then, with the body filled inside, the three—flesh, blood, and bones—are purified, and contemplate the body transforming into a light body. If contemplating as the body of a yidam, then with the words of Ka Sang, contemplate the glorious Coemergent Union. There, focus the mind on the letter ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) at the heart of the Selfless Mother, and meditate slightly. Then, from that ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) letter, light radiates, filling the body of the Selfless Mother. From that, light radiates, and the inside of one's own body becomes clear and bright, like lighting a lamp in a dark cave. Again, light radiates outward from the pores of one's skin, and contemplate all appearances becoming clear and bright. In that very way, again, first focus the mind on the ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) at the heart, and then meditate while continuously emitting light, etc. Focus the mind on the ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) at the heart for a long time. After doing that several times, relax the awareness naturally and rest in whatever state arises. Repeat that again and again, always meditating. Initially, exert effort for many days and meditate in that way. Sometimes, a feeling of ease and comfort will arise, and one will naturally abide without conceptual thoughts, without hope or doubt. If that happens, it is sufficient to rest in that very state. When one arises from that state, meditate with strong intention as before. At night, when going to sleep, focus the mind on the ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) at the heart of the Selfless Mother, and then go to sleep. This is the forty-third meditation point. Second, relying on the letter ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿): The preliminary practices are the same as before. In the center of the body, which is visualized as one's yidam, visualize a white central channel as thick as an arrow shaft. Inside that channel, either directly in line with the navel or four fingers' width below the navel, visualize a white, clear, and luminous ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) letter. Hold the mind on that ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) letter for a moment. From the ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) letter, light radiates, filling the central channel. From that, light radiates, making the inside of one's own body extremely clear. Light radiates from the pores of one's skin, and all appearances are pervaded with clarity and brightness. When sleeping, focus the mind on the ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese: 阿) below the navel. The other methods of practice are the same as before. This is the forty-fourth meditation point. Third, relying on the Lama: Again, perform the preliminary practices as before. In the heart of oneself visualized as the supreme deity, on a lotus and moon seat, if one visualizes one's root guru as Vajradhara, then Vajradhara's body color is white, the same as the usual form.
