This is called mixing with the earth. Here, it refers to the mind purifying the body, purification by selflessness, and the latter two transformations, etc. Therefore, in the dream yoga instructions, first, if one does not recognize dreams as dreams, the root of practice for this Dharma category will be lost. So, first, one must grasp all dreams. For that purpose, the instruction for grasping dreams is shown. Then, in order to be able to master various skills without hindrance, in order to be able to control the appearance of dreams, there are two purifications, earlier and later, as well as increase, emanation, and the first two transformations, and the arising of various object appearances. In order to generate the supreme actual practice in the dream itself, there are two ways: introducing the dream into luminosity, and introducing the dream into the self-arising of the deity form. The former is the two intermediate purifications. The latter is transforming various deity forms and appearances into detachment from emptiness. If one understands in this way, then those who consider themselves wise and say that the dream yoga instructions in the Six Dharmas of Naropa are many but the key points are few, that kind of frivolous statement will be understood as irrelevant, accidental words. All the instructions from beginning to end of these Six Dharmas are supremely beneficial to beginners, and signs will appear immediately. And those who think that there is no benefit for beginners, but boast of profound instructions, that kind of statement is absolutely wrong. Moreover, those who rely on foolish, self-made Dharma texts, who have neither the good explanations based on scriptures nor the practical application based on instructions, but just talk nonsense, should be certain that they are completely different. Fourth, in the guidance of luminosity, the self-liberation of ignorance, there are three guides: preliminary, main practice, and subsequent. First, there are four aspects: the root is impermanence and renunciation, the branch is conduct and samaya substances, the leaves are the self-appearance of skillful means, and the supplication is the manifestation of flowers. First, the root is impermanence and renunciation: because one is certain that one will die, and when one will die is uncertain, and that all of samsara in the six realms and three realms is suffering, one must strongly cultivate the thought of uselessness. If one has not cultivated the guidance of impermanence before, there is no need to mention it. Even those who have cultivated it must cultivate the guidance of impermanence again at this time. In general, by cultivating the encouragement of the Dharma—death, impermanence, and renunciation—more often, a clear and sharp awareness will arise. By strengthening this power, even at the time of sleep

. Clarity of awareness will arise. That will also grasp the clear light. Moreover, a sorrowful person, because their awareness is spurred on, will easily have remembrance even in deep sleep. For example, if one worries about awareness being distracted during the day, one will sleep less at night. Likewise, the wisdom dakini also said, "At death, the clear light born from the continuum will arise." Second, regarding the branches—conduct and samaya substances: Regarding conduct, as it is said, "Conduct should be slow, food should be oily, and activities that cause distraction should be abandoned." Like the conduct of a sick person, one should do what needs to be done slowly. Food should be oily, and one should consume an appropriate amount of food that is beneficial to the body. One should abandon jumping, running, competing in sports, fighting, drawing a bow, and other activities that disturb the channels and winds, as well as activities that cause distraction. Regarding samaya substances, generally, one should prepare a feast and torma offerings. Offer tormas to the five classes of dakinis. Also, offer tormas to the Swift-Acting Wisdom Protector and pray to him. When offering tormas, it is said that one should burn gugul incense and mahamamsa incense. Third, regarding the leaves—skillful means and the natural radiance: If one is accustomed to tummo yoga, then practicing the regular yoga is sufficient, and nothing else is needed. Below that, one should first practice gentle wind vase breathing for about a month. When meditating on the actual clear light, one should also practice a session of breath control in the morning or afternoon, whichever is convenient, to the extent that it does not cause fatigue. Through the yoga of breath, one can separate essence and impurities. Because the clear light arises from the radiance of the essence, it is crucial to practice channel and wind yoga. In general, clear light, as one of the six dharmas, is mainly discussed when explaining the clear light of sleep. Therefore, tummo and clear light are listed separately. Otherwise, tummo is the supreme means for generating the clear light of daytime. It is more powerful than drop retention, subsequent dissolution, sudden awakening, and subtle bindus. Fourth, regarding supplication—the cause of blossoming flowers: As it is said, "The cause of the arising of clear light is devotion to the guru." Therefore, devotion to the guru is very important for the arising of clear light. Well, devotion to the guru is important for all meditations. Why is it said to be important only for clear light?
