Now, generate the aspiration of 'need'. That is, the coarse appearance of the present waking state, before falling into deep sleep, there is a conceptualization between sleep and appearance. For example, after experiencing sounds like 'buzzing' in the ears, or feeling numbness in the body, or feeling heavy pressure, or a tingling sensation between the eyebrows, or difficulty in breathing, appearances such as beings like humans and dogs, houses, and roads will vaguely appear. These appearances are clearer than the subconscious, but slightly more blurred than actual dreams, appearing in a hazy state. This is what is called the conceptualization between sleep and appearance. At this time, one should strongly train oneself to think, 'This must be recognized as a dream.' In these three states, the focus is similar except for changing the aspiration. In the three time points, maintaining the three key points of the body, the posture is also similar to before. But do not contract the object of focus into emptiness, instead, focus the mind on the syllable Om Now, go to sleep by cultivating the aspiration of 'needing to recognize the conceptualization between sleep and appearance that is now arising' in a way that is not too strong. If the conceptualization between sleep and appearance arises, relax slightly, generating the thought, 'This is a dream,' and slightly contract the jaw. However, if too many adjustments and changes are made, one may wake up, so go to sleep while maintaining a moderate aspiration. Recognize the conceptualization between sleep and appearance, and because it is grasped through a mindful aspiration, this is called 'taking the path with mindfulness.' It is said that this is a key instruction for not failing to grasp dreams. Here, in the instruction manuals of Ja, Sam, and Serlingpa, only a brief mention is made of the syllable Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) in the throat, and then it is stopped. Jachen said that the focus during the day and night, and the focus mentioned earlier, both emphasize the states of non-mindfulness and mindfulness. Or, when extracting the essence of the two focuses, Jachen said not to practice these two focuses themselves, but to train the general aspiration for dreams. These are all spoken according to oral instructions. This is the twenty-second focus. Second, training in dreams: Only after stability has been gained in grasping dreams is it necessary to train in dreams. That is, abandoning the focus on grasping dreams, and focusing solely on the training itself.

It has been done (prepared). If you continuously practice without missing the object of grasping (the dream), from the point where you can remember the dream every night, also practice the object of purification, and it is enough to combine grasping and purification into one. There are four types: purifying the mind with the body, purifying the body with the mind, purifying with the mother of selflessness, and purifying with intention. The first of these is: before the Guru Yoga, it is the same as when grasping the dream, just change the recitation of "Please accomplish the dream." Then the real object is: visualize that below the place where you are, there is a very large abyss like a cliff. Visualize that you are also on the edge of that abyss, in the sky about an arrow's length above. Then looking down, you will suddenly feel dizzy. At that time, think that I am asleep. This appearance is the appearance of a dream. What is there to be afraid of in the appearance of a dream? Thinking, let yourself fall. Just before falling to the ground, visualize that you immediately disappear, or fly up again and again, standing on the edge of the cliff as before. Practice that kind of method repeatedly. For this object, whether you visualize yourself as a deity or practice in an ordinary way, it is fine, so practice without fixing. Also, some say to put one body on the edge of the cliff, and then another body connected by a light rope moves up and down from there. But this is not mentioned in the oral instructions. This is the twenty-third object guidance. Second, purifying the body with the mind is: the preliminary practice is the same as above. Visualize yourself as the body of the deity, with a blue Hum syllable (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) in each of the nine doors, each with great light, and all the pores are filled with countless small, shining blue Hum syllables (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum), without gaps. All the Hum syllables (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) are facing inward. Practice the intention of dreaming strongly. From all the Hum syllables (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum), rays of light like blue, clear light ropes are emitted, shining into the body. The lights gather and gather, merging into one. It also covers the outside of the body. The image of the deity disappears, and everything becomes a ball of light. Again, practice the intention of dreaming strongly. That ball of light gradually disappears from the edge. Smaller and smaller, about the size of a fist, about the size of a thumb, about the size of a small bean, about the size of a mustard seed, and finally it is invisible
