This is about introducing (Sapa). Thus, settling the mind in a state of clarity and non-discrimination, and becoming accustomed to the nature of self-awareness, which is the inseparability of appearance and emptiness, gives rise to shamatha and vipassanā. By this, the gross afflictions are destroyed, and one enters the correct path. Therefore, the gurus introduce it by saying that one has seen the nature of the mind. This order is: with vipassanā that is fully endowed with shamatha, the knowable obscurations that completely destroy afflictions, first one should seek shamatha, and it should be manifested and enhanced without worldly attachments. This is in accordance with what was said, and therefore it is explained in this way. Now, I will explain how to practice and improve after the guru has introduced the nature of oneself through experience. First, one must know the signs of whether the experience is grasped by realization or not. By holding the mind, meditation arises. Its benefits are the arising of bliss, clarity, and non-discrimination. Bliss is also divided into two: physical bliss, first is bliss mixed with afflictions, then there is bliss without afflictions, pervading the whole body, and finally even when touched by heat and cold, one feels comfortable. Mental bliss is: joy, satisfaction, and being free from pain in the mind. These three stages also occur in the same way as before. Clarity is also divided into two: the clarity of the five senses and the clarity of the mind. First, as a sign that the mind is grasped, in the object of the eyes, things like smoke, mirages, and fireflies appear clearly, as well as lights like candles, the moon, the sun, and flames, as well as bindus, rainbows, and other various beings and forms. The clarity of the mind is: all thoughts to be abandoned and antidotes arise, and one is able to understand wisdom and distraction, as well as dependent origination. Clear, bright, without dullness and sleep, and feeling that one can understand all dharmas. Non-discrimination is first the mind is focused on the object, then the discriminating thoughts disappear, staying where it is placed, and finally it feels that all thoughts are pacified. Among them, grasping with wisdom means knowing that bliss has no inherent nature, and not being attached to tasting it. Clarity has no faults of scattering and agitation from thoughts of cause and effect. Even if one obtains an unwavering non-discriminating mind, but the mind

If the way actions immediately arise and cease is directly realized by self-cognizance, it is a sign of going on the right path. However, if attachment arises to the enjoyment of pleasant experiences, and pride arises from clarity, leading to the arising of clinging to superiority, or if non-conceptualization is mixed with the experience of emptiness, and after experiencing the taste, a mind of contempt for cause and effect arises, then it is a wrong path. Thus, even if one can go to the form realm, one will not go on the path of enlightenment, so it is crucial to be sustained by correct wisdom. Although there are many wrong paths at this time, they can be summarized into three: hostility towards emptiness, hostility towards compassion, and hostility towards the conceptual thought of cause and effect. The first is hostility towards emptiness: thinking that all phenomena are mind, and mind also abides in freedom from elaboration, so everything is unreal, what is the use of the effort of body, speech, and mind? What is the use of virtuous actions that are compounded? This is the wrong path of hostility towards emptiness. The second is hostility towards compassion: thinking that for these sentient beings who have not realized, one should act for their benefit with compassion, but while others do not listen or succeed, one abandons samadhi and engages forcefully in compounded phenomena, becoming exhausted by the clinging to the reality of self and sentient beings, this is the wrong path of hostility towards compassion. The third is hostility towards conceptual thought: seeing that everything is done by conceptual thought, one thinks that one can achieve omniscience, so one studies grammar, logic, crafts, and medicine. If one accomplishes various mundane tasks and transforms the skill of shamatha and vipashyana, it is called the wrong path of hostility towards the conceptual thought of cause and effect. Therefore, the practice of skill is: when a pleasant experience arises, seal it with the unreality of emptiness. When conceptual thoughts move in the clarity appearance of the mind, the awareness should be clear and non-conceptual. When the clarity appearance of the five senses and direct perception arise, such as the ten constants, one should be certain that everything is one's own mind, and without clinging to the reality of names and signs, one should repeat one's own nature in freedom from elaboration. When the non-conceptual experience of emptiness arises, seal it with the experience of clarity, and abandon the acceptance and rejection of cause and effect and dependent origination of practice and non-practice. When staying in a solitary place, if one thinks that everything is mixed into one taste and that day and night are connected, then mix happiness and suffering and see whether it is of one taste or not. If pride arises from one's own experience, one should know that it is a trick of the devil, and generate pure perception towards all others.
