The five are clear by their own nature, yet they are decided without conceptualization. So, the consciousness of the five gates, the eye consciousness that grasps form, and the four sounds. The ear consciousness that grasps sound, the nose consciousness that grasps smell, the tongue consciousness that grasps taste, and the body consciousness that grasps touch, these five also. Relying on the object and the sense faculty, they appear momentarily, clear in their own nature and abiding without conceptualization. The consciousness of the six aggregates, the single mind, should be cut off at its root, because focusing the mind on the Dharma is like the consciousness of the five gates, clear in its own nature in a single moment and abiding without conceptualization. There is no confusion in the self-nature of the six aggregates of consciousness, the previous consciousness has ceased, and the subsequent one has not arisen. The present moment that arises is also apparent and clear, so without abandoning the conventional truth. Although clear, it is not formed into a shape, not formed into a color. It is not made by a maker, whether it be self, Ishvara, Maheshvara, Brahma, atoms, Prakriti, a person, etc. Therefore, because it is empty by nature, it does not abandon the ultimate truth. The two, appearance and emptiness, are inseparable, appearing everywhere and expressible everywhere, therefore it is completely liberated from that and other. One should realize this. This is self-awareness, that is, realizing that self-awareness is mistaken is wisdom, because it is knowing the reality that has always been. Such direct perception is not known to be expressed by the lands of ordinary children, nor is it the object of the afflicted mind's conceptualization. Therefore, it cannot be shown until one has experienced it oneself. This is also from the Doha: Water and lamp, abide alone in self-illumination. Coming and going, I neither take nor abandon. And: Alas, this is self-awareness, there is nothing else to show directly. Do not be confused about this. So it is said. The view in brief: Self-awareness, free from elaboration, is just that, appearing and empty, empty and appearing. Therefore, appearance and emptiness are inseparable, like the moon in water. Thus, establish non-duality. So on and so forth, established by scripture and reason, it is said in all the texts, but enough of elaboration. That is the six aggregates of
