Quintessence of Instructions, Volume Six: The Instruction Manual on Mahamudra Sahajasambhara Quintessence of Instructions, Volume Six The Instruction Manual on Mahamudra Sahajasambhara The Instruction Manual on Mahamudra Sahajasambhara is present. Composed by Karma Pakshi Rangjung Dorje. Homage to the venerable lamas. The perfectly complete Buddha, Vajradhara, spoke to the great Tilopa. After the venerable Naropa practiced the twelve hardships, he directly introduced the Sahajasambhara wisdom of self-awareness and realized its meaning. This is introduced to those who follow, and there are three parts to this: the preliminaries and the main practice of seeking the mind of calm abiding (shamatha). Therein, the meaning of insight (vipashyana), Sahajasambhara, is introduced, and the meaning of the subsequent practice is shown. The first is: the true lama who possesses the characteristics takes the student into practice in accordance with the Dharma, abandoning the activities of this life and striving for unsurpassed enlightenment. First, obtain the vows of morality and the generation of the mind of enlightenment. Then, ripen the mindstream completely with empowerment, and practice in a secluded and pleasant place. First, cut off the eight worldly concerns of body, speech, and mind. On a comfortable seat, the key points of the body: legs in vajra posture, hands in equipoise mudra, spine straight, neck slightly bent, eyes focused on the tip of the nose, remain in your own tradition. This is the key point of the body. Then, from beginningless time, wandering in the ocean of samsara and experiencing immeasurable suffering, because you have not realized the essence of your own mind, the Tathagatagarbha, you have generated the clinging to "I" and "mine," and these sentient beings who wander endlessly in samsara are so pitiful! Meditate from the depths of your heart with compassion. In this way, the noble protectors, the Buddhas, are very kind. The lama who directly shows the quintessence of their instructions is doing the work of the Buddhas for me, so their kindness is even greater. Generate faith in this way. Visualize the lama Vajradhara on the crown of your head, or the form of Vajrasattva, or the nature of the root lama as without inherent existence. Meditate on them as inseparable from all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions and all the Kagyu lineages, and offer your body, possessions, and enjoyments, reciting in your speech: Orgyen Chö

In the vast palace, is the essence of all Buddhas of the past, present, and future. I prostrate to the glorious and precious Lama who reveals the Dharmakaya of my own mind. With bodies, enjoyments, and emanations of mind, I offer all offerings and praises. I confess all the sins I have committed in the past. I will not commit other sins in the future. I rejoice in all the virtues of all beings and dedicate them as the cause of supreme Bodhi. I pray that you remain without passing into Nirvana. I urge you to turn the wheel of the supreme and unsurpassed vehicle. May love and compassion increase without partiality, and may I realize the wisdom that is born together with ultimate reality, just as the Victorious Ones and their heirs have realized it. Bless me to directly realize the illusory body as the Nirmanakaya. Bless me to realize the life-force as the Sambhogakaya. Bless me to realize my own mind as the Dharmakaya. Bless me to realize the three Kayas as inseparable. Having said this, remain single-pointedly in the state of Guru Yoga. If it is unclear or thoughts arise, visualize the Guru Yoga dissolving into light, then relax and meditate without any alteration. At the end of the session, say, "May it benefit all sentient beings," and seal it with dedication. Thus, even with just the body posture and Guru Yoga, Samadhi can arise. The Vinaya Sutra says: Among five hundred non-Buddhist hermits, a monkey who saw a Pratyekabuddha demonstrate the body posture attained five kinds of clairvoyance and also attained self-born Bodhi. There is also the teaching that Bodhi is attained through devotion to the Guru and the Buddha. All Sutras and Tantras mention this, so I will not elaborate here, but you should have firm faith. Second, the main part has two divisions. First, the cause of Shamatha, the limb of Samadhi—meditating on mind-holding. The body posture is as before, practice for one session. With the gaze of the eyes, look at the tip of the nose, four fingers below. Do not cut off the past, do not welcome the future, remain in the state of clear present awareness without conceptualization. If you cannot remain single-pointedly in the state of indivisible clarity and emptiness, then meditate by relying on the six objects. First, in the object of the eyes, fix your gaze on whatever appearance is clear, and the mind
