That very moment of being without grasping, nakedly abiding in clarity and emptiness, is called seeing the self-nature of co-emergent thoughts or thoughts dawning as Dharmakaya. Like when the essence of thoughts was previously determined and the root of the shifting abode was severed, there is nothing more than the single, self-aware, self-luminous mind that is without grasping. It is like the example of water and waves. So, is there a difference between abiding and moving, or is there a difference between thought and non-thought? When co-emergent abiding occurs without thought, is there a need for a good result or a reason to be happy? When thoughts scatter and proliferate, is there a need for a bad result or a reason to be unhappy? If you do not understand this analogy, you will suffer a famine of meditation, so from now on, do not strive to generate thoughts that have not arisen, but let them naturally exist as they arise. When they arise, there is no need to prevent them in order to make them exist, so do not discriminate between abiding and moving. This thought can be compared to all thoughts. However, for the time being, you can take thought itself as the path, and even if thoughts do not arise, you should deliberately provoke them and maintain their essence. Otherwise, there is a risk of losing the opportunity to see the essence of thoughts, so strive to maintain it. After admonishing them in this way, let them calm down and meditate for a few days. If you wish, you can also quote scriptures to generate certainty. The third is: As before, maintain the essential equipoise of body posture and gaze, and allow the appearance of forms such as mountains or houses to clearly arise. When you stare at what appears, is the appearance without grasping and abiding in clarity and emptiness? Is the self-nature of mind clarity and emptiness? What is the difference between the two? Observe for a while, and let them observe. Even if they say there is no difference, and both abide in clarity and emptiness without grasping. Then, is it that the form of the appearance that arises ceases and then abides in clarity and emptiness? Or is it that by meditating on the form as emptiness, it abides in clarity and emptiness? Or is it that the form of the appearance itself abides in clarity and emptiness? If they answer like the first two cases, it means that there was no thorough decision before, so let them meditate again and make a decision. If you experience that the form of the shape, that is, the appearance itself, without ceasing the appearance, just appearing without grasping, abides in clarity and emptiness. Then, the introduction is: When the appearance of mountains and houses clearly arises, the appearance that you see, without needing to disappear or stop, the appearance itself, while appearing, abides in clarity and emptiness without grasping, that is the essence of appearance.

Then one can see (the nature). When looking at the nature of what appears, and when deciding that appearance is mind, it is like cutting off superimpositions. Appearances do not come from elsewhere, nor are they within the mind-essence; only the clear and empty mind itself appears, and there is nothing else. It is like the example of the realm of dreams and the knowledge of dreams. The moment appearances arise, they are self-liberated appearances and emptiness without grasping. To be without grasping at appearances, for appearances to be naked in emptiness, this is called seeing the co-emergent self-nature of appearances, or appearances manifesting as the Dharmakaya. Therefore, emptiness is not the cause of good, appearances are not the cause of bad, and appearances and emptiness are not different. When appearances arise, in order to cultivate them, do not block the appearance aspect. When emptiness arises, in order to cultivate it, do not fabricate the appearance aspect, but transform whatever arises into meditation. There is no need to abandon or adopt, nor to modify; if one can reach it with the mindfulness of practice, then all appearances and existence are the great seal Dharmakaya, so from now on, do not adopt or reject, be close to or distant from appearances and emptiness, but cultivate them. However, for the time being, allow various different ways of appearing to arise, and it is important not to forget to cultivate the nature of appearances without grasping. Thus, he had them meditate for several days, and if they were interested, he also quoted scriptures to generate certainty. Second, correcting mistakes and identifying meditation is divided into two: explaining mistakes and faults in meditation, and explaining the absence of faults in meditation. First, the meditation of Mahamudra of the Dagpo Kagyu is as famous as the sun and moon, but due to the differences in each person's understanding, it seems that various different ways of grasping arise. Although one should not refute others, in order to generate understanding for those who trust oneself, I will explain a little. That is to say, merely grasping at the state of mind and making the mind abide like a still flag on the sea, the subtle and coarse appearances of the six consciousnesses cease, or even if they do not cease, they are not clear, like a walpo (a type of cloud), if one takes this as meditation, the former is a very serious mistake, and the latter is also a fault called "lethargy." Or, if one takes the state of unconsciousness without the feeling of whether appearances are clear or unclear as meditation, then one is distracted into non-mentation, which is not correct. Or, if one takes the state of blankness between the cessation of the previous thought and the arising of the next thought as meditation, that is a great fault because it is not seized by insight, and even if it is seized, one cannot cultivate Mahamudra from it.
