The Great Treatise on the Great Seal, "Clarifying the Innate Suchness." Dagpo Tashi Namgyal. The Great Treatise on the Great Seal, "Clarifying the Innate Suchness." Dagpo Tashi Namgyal. Here ends the work called "The Great Treatise on the Great Seal, Clarifying the Innate Suchness." The Order of Meditation Instructions on the Definitive Great Seal, called "Clarifying the Innate Suchness." I prostrate with respect to the Lama and glorious Vajradhara. From the Dharmadhatu, emptiness, the nature free from elaboration, Appearances and existence are a magical display, profound and clear. From the beginning, spontaneously accomplished, the essence of bliss and emptiness united, I respectfully bow to the all-pervading, genuine mind. That which is difficult to realize for a long time through other paths, The direct realization of the definitive secret, all-pervading Lord of Mind, Which is shown like a finger pointing without assembly, I bow to Gampopa and the lineage of practitioners. That lineage of his, called the Great Seal, Though it has illuminated the land of snows, famous as the sun and moon, Nevertheless, adorned with experiential instructions, Having abandoned conceptualization, it will be clearly stated again. Therefore, here, being utterly weary of all the sufferings of samsara, and possessing a strong renunciation to quickly accomplish Buddhahood, those fortunate ones who have faith and trust in the accomplished Lama and the path of blessings will be easily established in the meaning of the nature of reality. The definitive Great Seal Has four stages of instruction: the preliminaries of the instructional stages, the main part of the meditation stages, the way to maintain practice afterwards, and the way to traverse the grounds and paths through meditation practice. The first has two: the common preliminaries and the uncommon preliminaries. The first: As explained elsewhere, it is important to cultivate the stages of the path of the three types of individuals, such as contemplating the difficulty of finding leisure and endowments and impermanence, and to generate a firm mind of renunciation. If one does not make effort here and treats it as an easy Dharma, then one will remain in the realm of words only once or twice, and the mind of striving for practice will not arise, and one will be under the influence of the eight worldly concerns. The second: One should fully ripen oneself with the empowerment of maturation in the mandala of unsurpassed secret mantra, or with the empowerment of blessing symbols, etc. Then, as explained elsewhere, to counteract laziness, contemplate impermanence; to dispel obstacles, take refuge.

Then, generate Bodhicitta, offer mandalas to accumulate merit, practice the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva to purify obscurations, and practice Guru Yoga to receive blessings. Guide them sequentially. Let them strive to practice each of these yogas for five or seven days, or whatever is appropriate, and at the end of each yoga practice, relax the mind and body, like a loose piece of leather, and rest in the natural state, and examine the level of practice. Secondly, regarding the actual practice of the stages of meditation, there are two aspects: the order of guidance and the order of introduction. The first aspect is further divided into two: guiding through the method of tranquility (Shamatha) and guiding through the method of insight (Vipassana). The first of these is further divided into two: with signs and without signs. The one with signs is further divided into two: with support and without support. The first is: In the four sessions and so on, the preliminary yoga practices should be slightly shorter than the previous sessions. During the Guru Yoga session, in particular, pray strongly for the generation of Samadhi. Then, sit in the Vajra posture with legs crossed, or if unable, sit in the Bodhisattva posture. Place the hands in the meditation mudra, four fingers below the navel. Straighten the spine and align the whole body. Extend the arms and elbows without bending. Bend the neck slightly. Touch the tip of the tongue to the upper palate, leaving a small gap between the upper and lower teeth, and close the lips. Gaze peacefully at the tip of the nose, maintaining the seven-point posture of Vairochana. In general, for all meditations, the body posture is very important. Especially for the mind to abide, the body posture is crucial, so let them do it very carefully, so that some people can find the way to abide on their own. It is good even if the body posture can only be maintained for a few days. Then, during the day, place a dull, non-shiny white object such as a stone or a piece of wood in front of the line of sight as an object of focus. Simply focus the mind on it in a relaxed manner, without clinging to it or analyzing it. Keep the mind from wandering or straying elsewhere, and let it abide on the object. Or, at the boundary of sunlight and shadow, focus the mind on a small object as above. At night, focus the mind on a small white dot (about the size of a mustard seed) between your eyebrows, or alternately focus the mind on a small black dot (about the size of a mustard seed) below you, in the same way as above. For those who have difficulty finding a sense of abiding, if they feel tired from focusing on these objects, visualize the colored body of the Tathagata Buddha in the space in front
