From the nature of phenomena, there is not even a hair's tip of meditation. To say that there is not even a mote of meditation there, yet there is not even a moment of distraction, and to say that this ordinary, undistracted consciousness, means to guard the mind's natural state without distraction. Therefore, if the self-luminous awareness is not distracted, then whether the mind abides in a state of clear emptiness or blissful ease, or whether thoughts arise in a turbulent flurry, or whether various appearances arise with vivid clarity, even so, it is meditation. So, do not tamper with the essence of the natural state, but guard it relaxedly. It is not meaningful to stop the arising of thoughts and suppress appearances, and to remain without thinking. The reason for this is also as before, having cut off the imputations and introduced the nature, there are not many differences between the essence of mind itself and the arising of thoughts and appearances, etc. Rather, the sole, unimpeded function of mind itself is like the ocean itself appearing as waves, so whatever arises as the mind's natural state, there is no good or bad in it. Therefore, if the mind abides, abide in the place of abiding; if it moves, move in the place of moving; if it appears, appear in the place of appearing; guard it with mindfulness. If it abides, do not deliberately scatter it; if it moves, do not stop it. Whether it is clear and bright, or empty and still, or blissful and easy, or turbulent and agitated, however it abides, do not modify or adjust it on the basis of non-distraction. In short, if you have self-luminous awareness, then everything is meditation; if you are distracted, then nothing is meditation. So, for the time being, value awareness. Once awareness and the essence of mind are undifferentiated, everything will be transformed into the nature of awareness, and bliss will arise. Then, is it permissible not to follow the stages of instruction, but from the very beginning to seize whatever arises in the mind with mindfulness? For a few individuals with sudden realization faculties, that may be possible, but for others, if you do not follow the stages of instruction, you will not be able to cut off the root of clinging to appearances and mind, and you will not be able to generate the certainty that includes the experience of seeing the essence. Even if there is other mindfulness, it will not do, because there is no self-luminous awareness. So, the meaning of the words "ordinary mind," "unfabricated original mind," is also here, that is, abiding here. The sutras and tantras that teach pure views, and the words of the great accomplished ones of India and Tibet, all converge on this point. Third, there are six methods for cultivating post-meditation: In general, the necessity of cultivation; in particular, cultivating meditation without interrupting equipoise and post-meditation; cutting off obstacles and wrong paths; repeatedly practicing in the unborn to enhance it; utilizing the path.

Training through practice, along with eliciting the ways of arising realization. First, it is not enough to just generate meditation; one must cultivate it well. If one does not cultivate after generating meditation and remains in an ordinary state, or strives for other accumulation and purification with fixation, it is like a king doing the work of subjects or a lion going to a pack of dogs, deviating from the meaning. Therefore, renunciation is the foot of meditation, or like a master, so contemplate the suffering of samsara. Instill deeply in your heart that this life is impermanent and meaningless, abandon worldly attachments, and generate the determination to balance life and practice. Devotion is the head of meditation, or like a condition for eliciting realization, so maintain an understanding of the lama and lineage as inseparable from the actual Buddha, and pray from the depths of your heart with reliance. Mindfulness is the guard of meditation, or like the main practice, so do not abandon other things outside of session times, and train in not being separated from mindfulness of the nature of reality at all times and in all circumstances. The activity of meditation is compassion, so cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta towards all sentient beings, and place them under the protection of dedication and aspiration prayers. Until one's own meditation has reached its end, regard the seemingly altruistic act of showing and spreading it to others as an obstacle of demons, and rely on solitude. The armor of meditation is shame and embarrassment, so keep your own mind as a witness within, and do not be ashamed of the external lama, Three Jewels, and Dharma friends, and diligently meditate through trusted boundaries, retreats, and outlines. Second, the way to cultivate meditation, especially in union of shamatha and vipashyana: From just starting meditation to the Great Perfection, it is said that there is only shamatha and vipashyana of one's own level, and there is no shamatha and vipashyana with characteristics. However, in cultivating meditation, generally, if the mindfulness of self-awareness is not distracted, then everything is meditation, so there is no acceptance or rejection, but until the shamatha and vipashyana of realization are not mixed, practice shamatha in the main practice of the session, and cultivate its essence as single-pointed concentration, and practice vipashyana during the breaks between sessions, and transform thoughts and appearances into the path, which is understood as the view of most practice lineages. For people with strong personalities, generate meditation for a while, but because it seems bigger, it is said that there are three ways to cultivate its essence: natural, relaxed, and at ease. Among them, natural means that the key to the body is relaxation, and the speech of...
