The place of progress cannot be determined. In this regard, it is said that it is necessary for those of superior faculties to attain realization, those of intermediate faculties to attain experience, and those of inferior faculties to attain a firm understanding, but understanding alone is not enough. Among these people, some are skilled at explaining but have not generated experience, and some, even if they have experience, are not good at explaining. Therefore, the guru should be skilled at guiding through restraint and guidance, and be skilled at asking questions. Even if a pleasant experience arises, do not reveal it by showing off, keep it secret. Let them experience it for a while. Some people alternate between the guidance and introduction of vipassanā, or observe during the introduction, and there are various situations. At these times, make decisions through analysis and research, generate experience, and then introduce the experience during the introduction, and let them meditate, which is good. In any case, if experience cannot be generated, let them cultivate śamatha for a while, so that clear awareness arises, and if you guide in this way, you will accomplish the meaning and stabilize the experience. Second, the order of introduction is divided into two: introducing innate (co-emergent), and eliminating faults and identifying meditation. The first is divided into three: introducing innate mind-essence, introducing innate thoughts, and introducing innate appearances. The first is: when introducing, do not let anyone other than the guru and disciple be present. If they are happy, let them do everything according to the previous points. When you leave your mind uncorrected in its own state, all subtle thoughts subside in themselves, and mind-essence abides in its own state, does such a state exist? Stay calm and observe. This is called śamatha. In that state, do not fall into dullness, non-conceptuality, or distraction, the nature of mind is like this, do not describe it in words,

Does it abide in the peaceful state unblemished by names? Instruct them to look from within the state of equanimity. This is called the union of quiescence and insight. Both are complete within a single moment of the mind. Experiencing and recognizing this is called generating meditation. This is the Buddha's intention, the mind-essence of sentient beings, the unborn Dharmakaya, the nature of reality, the innate awareness of co-emergent mind, Mahamudra, and so forth, with many names. All Sutras, Tantras, Shastras, and pure instructions converge and flow into this. If desired, one can also quote authoritative sources to increase certainty. For now, it's unnecessary to say too much, as it might confuse those of lesser intelligence. In short, by letting the mind rest in its natural state, thoughts dissolve on their own, and in the state of ungraspable, self-aware, self-luminous, co-emergent mind, rest single-pointedly without distraction. During the activities between sessions, also try to maintain that mindfulness as much as possible, and it is crucial to meditate diligently for several days to become familiar with it. Otherwise, there is a risk of losing sight of the mind-essence that has been sought through various means, so admonish them and have them meditate for several days. Secondly, as before, have them sit in front of you with the correct posture. Let your mind rest in its natural state, and when thoughts subside, gaze intently at the nature of the ungraspable, clear, empty, and naked mind, without distraction. Furthermore, when a strong thought like joy or happiness arises, look directly at its nature in the state of clarity and emptiness as it arises. Does that thought also abide nakedly in the ungraspable clarity and emptiness? Does it abide there, inseparable from the nature of the co-emergent mind-essence? Instruct them to look for a while. Even if they say it abides in clarity and emptiness and there is no difference, ask: Does the thought abide in clarity and emptiness after it has ceased? Or does the thought abide in clarity and emptiness because you have brought it back into meditation? Or does the very moment of the confused thought abide in clarity and emptiness? If they answer like the first two, it means that the previous clinging has not yet been severed, so have them decide for several days. If, without needing the first two, they experience abiding like the latter, it means that they have seen the nature of the thought, so the introduction is: Because you have looked at the nature of the thought, without needing to stop the thought or bring it back into meditation, the very moment of the confused thought abides in clarity and emptiness.
