In that state, most dreams also merge into it. For the definite understanding accompanied by attachment to goodness, experiences of emptiness such as bliss-emptiness, awareness-emptiness, conceptual clarity-emptiness, appearance-appearance-emptiness, etc., arise in the mind, as well as many experiences such as everything being like a dream or illusion. Some contaminated qualities also arise. One feels that there is no better practice than this, and faith and respect arise. Also, during the three periods of one-pointedness, one should diligently engage in retreat, sealing the lips, and fasting. Avoid shadows, and if touched by a shadow, dispel its influence. If dullness or excitement arises, correct the faults and observe the mind. If dullness occurs, confess sins and request empowerment from the lama. Receive many empowerments of samadhi. Perform tsokhor, offerings, and generosity, and consult with the lama and Dharma friends for corrections. If very serious faults occur, and one is unwilling to confess to the lama and Dharma friends, or if wrong views arise, it is an obstacle from demons, so take refuge. Cultivate and meditate on renunciation, detachment, faith, pure perception, and compassion. Perform incense purification for a few days, correct faults, and engage in practice and appropriate physical exercises. Thus, cultivate that samadhi one-pointedly through focusing or sustaining mindfulness, according to the previously described methods of cultivation. Do not lose the realm of thought, the abiding in non-conceptuality, the experience of sensations, and the clarity of after-awareness. Do not develop attachment to the joy of good experiences or aversion to bad ones. Whatever arises, cultivate without acceptance or rejection, without grasping or fabrication. If the experience is intense, separate from the experience, increase strength, and repeatedly cultivate fresh awareness. At times, also look at the biographies of the founding masters of the practice lineage and vajra songs, etc., and generate similar courage within oneself. By cultivating in this way, one experiences and realizes the inseparability of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, merging into the clear-empty nature of the mind. Realize conceptual clarity-emptiness and appearance-appearance-emptiness, and be certain that everything is mind. Realize that the mind is unborn, self-aware, and self-liberated, thereby perfecting the realization of one-pointedness. If there is no progress, one must abandon the three attachments. Abandoning attachment to self means severing ties to this life, leaving the crowd, and distancing oneself from worldly

Giving up. Abandoning attachment and aversion to enemies and friends, and the clinging to the poverty of body and guru, performing Kusulu offerings. Abandoning attachment to enjoyment means offering whatever wealth one has to please the guru, offering pleasing offerings, tormas, and tsokhor to the yidam deities, and making offerings to please vajra brothers and sisters. Abandoning the desire for happiness, the desire for food and drink, and the desire for wealth. Disregarding food, clothing, and speech. Engaging in practices like those of wild animals as mentioned before, and abandoning places like one's homeland that are filled with attachment, aversion, and distraction. If one cannot abandon them no matter what, then observe silence for a few years. Abandoning attachment to samadhi means giving up all the good experiences that bring joy, happiness, and confidence. Whatever the reality that arises, determine that there is neither good nor bad, and contemplate it repeatedly. By cultivating the naked, genuine state of awareness that is free from experience, gradually progress, and when, in some experience, the dualistic clinging to objects and subjects disappears, then one will realize that the nature of mind is free from the elaboration of arising and ceasing, and thus the realization of non-elaboration will arise. Third is non-elaboration, which is also threefold: Although one realizes that the nature of mind, thoughts, and appearances is free from the elaboration of arising and ceasing, one is not yet free from the clinging to the experience of definite understanding that grasps emptiness, and one still has hopes and fears regarding samsara and nirvana—this is minor non-elaboration. Even the experience of definite understanding that grasps emptiness still gives rise to hopes and fears in appearance, and one has not yet cut off the superimposition—this is intermediate non-elaboration. For all appearances, existence, samsara, and nirvana, one has liberated the clinging of definite understanding that grasps emptiness, is free from hopes and fears, and has cut off superimposition—this is major non-elaboration. The distinction between whether non-elaboration is ultimate or not: When one sees the nature of mind as non-elaboration, the clinging of definite understanding is liberated. When the root of the experiencer is cut off and all elaborations vanish into a state of purity, then one sees the nature of non-elaboration. If the stain of clinging to emptiness, the aspect of definite understanding, is not pure, then one has not seen the nature. If there is not even a trace of hope and fear and clinging to emptiness, and one cuts off the superimposition on non-elaboration in ordinary awareness, then one has not perfected the skill. Even if one knows that the nature is unborn, hopes and fears still arise in appearance, and one has not cleared away the habit of clinging to emptiness, then one has not perfected the skill. If one recognizes all thoughts and appearances as the flow of emptiness and the appearance of emptiness, and in subsequent appearance, something like the realization of equipoise arises, then the door of conceptual thought
