When it dawns, the body is unimpeded, and in an instant, it spins downwards, etc. Recognize the bardo by the signs of the bardo. Then, when the four terrifying sounds and the three frightening precipices, and the fears of illusory forms dawn, all the appearances of the bardo are illusory appearances that are not established as true, and since the bardo does not have a substantial body, who would think that they would be burned by fire, carried away by water, etc., fall into a ravine, be killed and devoured by flesh-eaters, demons, and Yamaraja, etc.? Like in a dream, trampling on those things will dispel the fear of illusion. Furthermore, whatever illusions arise, contemplate them as unreal and illusory, and seize them with the view of the unborn great seal, and transform them into the path. Secondly: Then, in particular, visualize one's own body as the form of the yidam, and visualize the appearances of the vessel and essence world as the palace and the deity. With either calm abiding or insight, gather them into the clear light and abide in equanimity. Again, when illusions arise, train in the manner of arising as the mandala of the yidam deity. When you see the place of birth and begin to develop attachment and aversion to it, visualize those as the mandala of the yidam, receive empowerment, cultivate bliss and emptiness, and contemplate the objects of attachment and aversion as unreal and illusory, and cultivate the view of the unborn reality, etc., in order to block the door of birth. If you can train in this way for the first week, it is said that there will be no difficulty thereafter. If you train in this way for forty-nine days, by the power of the good support of the bardo, you will perfect all the grounds and paths, and take birth by the power of aspiration, and it is said that you will be prevented from taking birth solely by the power of karma. Thirdly: Then, if you wish to be born in a pure land such as Akanishta, focus on that pure land and strongly generate the aspiration to be born there miraculously. By transferring consciousness through the instructions of transference, it is said that you will be born without doubt, like a cannonball or a revolving wheel. Furthermore, if you wish to be born as a vidyadhara who is able to practice mantra and benefit sentient beings, you should also generate such a strong aspiration. And as mentioned before, understand the signs of good and bad birth places, and when the appearance of the birth place arises, if a bad appearance arises, then according to what was said above.

One should take measures to prevent rebirth, and if one sees a good place of rebirth, one should aspire to obtain a leisure and endowment body, continue the unfinished karma, and quickly attain Buddhahood, etc. Through the power of aspiration, one should take rebirth with mindfulness and awareness. This refers to attaining Buddhahood in the interval between death and the intermediate state of that life, or in three lives, etc. Therefore, the essential instruction of the Bardo is to transform death into Dharmakaya, Bardo into Sambhogakaya, and rebirth into Nirmanakaya, which are the three ways of taking the path. The Kagyu lineage masters also refer to death, Bardo, and rebirth as the three states of existence in Bardo, and they also consider it to be the practice of transforming the three Kayas into the path. Sixth, the instruction on the transference of consciousness that cuts through the path is divided into three parts: the person who performs the transference, the actual practice of the transference, and the necessity of such transference. First, the person who performs the transference, the superior and intermediate types, are the same as the superior and intermediate persons who grasp the Bardo mentioned earlier, namely, abiding in the clear light of death and manifesting the illusory body in the Bardo, which are respectively called superior transference into the clear light and intermediate transference into the illusory body. Therefore, those who have already ascertained the clear light of death and the Bardo do not need to diligently practice the transference here. As for the inferior person, even for the transference of the generation stage, if one is familiar with the generation stage, able to work with the channels and winds, and possesses special realization, that is most excellent. Even if it is not so, one needs to be someone who has tamed the channels and winds and has stable experience in meditation. Finally, one also needs to have faith in cause and effect and the instructions, and one must grasp the stages of visualization. The second part is divided into three: practicing transference, forceful transference, and entrusting the body for transference. The first part is divided into two: the practice of transference and its application to practice. First, in general, transference is divided into three types: superior transference into clear light, intermediate transference into the illusory body, and inferior transference into the generation stage. The methods of practicing the first two in this life and applying them at the time of death and Bardo have already been explained earlier. Here, we will talk about the latter, that is, the actual application of being able to perform transference. As a healthy person without illness, one hundred and eight breaths, seventy-two medium breaths, and thirty-six lower breaths are all contained in one breath.
