When it dawns, it appears like the clear sky at dawn, free from the three causes that obscure the sky: moonlight, sunlight, and the darkness of night. This is the actual luminosity of death. It is said that this is the time when appearances gradually dissolve, the winds dissolve into the heart, the white bindu from the crown descends, the red bindu from the navel ascends, and they gather in the heart bindu.

To make it stable. The bardo and divine eye of those of the same kind as oneself can see it. It is said that it manifestly wanders in order to seek a place of birth and scent. That bardo initially knows it has died by relying on some causes, and it can also see the corpse. Some sutras say that the appearance of having a body also arises. Then, when the appearance of the next life arises, the bardo of the lower realms is like the appearance of a black cloth or the darkness of night; the bardo of the higher realms is like the appearance of a white cloth or a night with moonlight, as Asanga said. In the Sutra of Joyful Entry into the Womb, it says that the bardo of hell is like the color of a tree stump burned by fire; the bardo of a hungry ghost is like the color of smoke; the bardo of an animal is like the color of water; the bardo of a god or human in the desire realm is like the color of gold; and the bardo of the form realm manifests as a white color. The bardo of a god goes with its head pointing upwards; humans, animals, and hungry ghosts go with their heads sideways; and hell beings go upside down. Some say that all three lower realms go upside down. Furthermore, for those who are born in the formless realm, there is no bardo; wherever they die, there the aggregates of the formless realm are formed. It is said that in the formless realm, if one is born in the desire or form realms, a bardo will arise. Some consider that the five colors of the light of pure perception appear, which seems to be consistent with the former. Furthermore, at that time, due to the earth element and wind, there is the sound of mountains collapsing; due to the water element and wind, there is the sound of the ocean churning; due to the fire element and wind, there is the sound of forests burning; due to the wind element and wind, there is the sound of the wind of time, that is, the four terrifying sounds. And the essence of the consciousness of the three poisons manifests as white, red, and black precipices, that is, the three frightening precipices. Due to the imprints of delusion, the violence of executioners such as rakshasas, yamas, and flesh-eaters arises. Some say that the six signs of the bardo are that the body has no shadow; the body is unimpeded and revolves greatly in an instant; what one has done is not seen by others; what others do and think is known by oneself; there is no appearance of the sun, moon, and stars; the co-born spirits calculate virtue and vice; and food and drink are...

Even if one desires to have things that cannot be enjoyed without giving alms, in the appearance of the bardo, due to the difference between good and bad karma, various uncertain illusions will arise, so a single, definite thing will not arise. For example, like the appearance of a dream. However, all appearances are uncertain and will become very unstable. The duration of that bardo is at most seven days, and before that it is uncertain. If one cannot be born into the becoming-state at that time, one will experience a small death like a slight faint, and then be born again into the bardo, taking hold of the becoming-state in the manner of seven days. Moreover, if the collection of causes for birth is not found, then one will still definitely take birth within forty-nine days. Third, after that, when entering the becoming-state, from the four modes of birth, if it is a miraculous birth, then attachment to the place will arise; if it is a moisture-born birth, then attachment to smells and tastes will arise; if it is a womb-born or egg-born birth, then attachment and hatred will arise towards the parents having intercourse. Moreover, if one is born as a male, one will be attached to the mother and hate the father; if one is born as a female, one will be attached to the father and hate the mother, thus, with the death cause of the bardo, one will slightly faint and take hold of the becoming-state. In particular, in some texts it is said that if one is born as a god, then that birth-place will appear as a jeweled palace, and one will see the sons and daughters of the gods and develop attachment; if one is born as an asura, one will see the male and female asuras in a delightful forest and develop attachment; if one is born as a human, if born in East Videha, one will see a lake adorned with stallions or many stallions; if born in South Jambudvipa, one will see many men and women in a magnificent house or in a place without a house; if born in West Godaniya, one will see a lake adorned with cattle or many cattle; if born in North Kuru, one will see a lake adorned with geese or many geese. In all four cases, one will develop attachment and hatred towards those engaging in intercourse. If one is born into a lower realm, various fearful illusions will arise, and one will seek refuge. For animals, one will see holes in the ground, caves in rocks, houses of roots and leaves, and so on; for pretas, one will see sounds and fluttering, and so on; for hell beings, one will see iron houses, and so on, each seeing their respective places, and thus the illusion of fleeing will arise. Those born miraculously, due to attachment to the place, will slight
