In this instruction, based on the words that explain the meditation on Vajrasattva, some explain that only white Vajrasattva should be meditated upon here, which is an inappropriate interpretation. Because Vajrasattva is only a symbol, one should meditate on one's own chosen deity here. It is very important to meditate on a chosen deity with its consort. Then, to accomplish abiding: the body should be in the seven-point posture, and especially the gaze should be fixed on the tip of the nose without moving. Clearly establish the complete form of the deity and place the support of the mind from its crown to the seat. Do not let the mind wander to anything else for even a moment, and if possible, meditate without ever wandering. That is, at first, when the form is not yet clear and the mind is not stable, if you are too tense or create too much detailed clarity, the mind may become agitated for some, which will become an obstacle to abiding, so relax the mind. Also, if you loosen too much, you will become dull, and although the mind is stable, the appearance of the deity's form will fade or become unclear, so at that time, slightly sharpen the mind and bring out the clear appearance. In this way, you must know how to eliminate the faults of dullness and agitation. Then, when the mind is stable with a clear form, increase the detailed clarity and accomplish abiding. When these are clear and stable, train by doing various tensing and loosening, and mix them with all activities and subtle and gross circumstances to gain stability. Secondly, when the form of the deity is clear and stable in this way, you must meditate while holding it with the view of vipashyana. If it is not held by the view, it will only be fabricated by the mind like an illusion, and it will not become a body like a truly illusory one. In this way, it is not said that one can attain supreme accomplishment, but only worldly accomplishments. The way to hold it with the view is: for those who have manifested a special view, the mere appearance as the deity's form arises as ungraspable appearance-emptiness self-awareness, so there is no need to newly generate a view. For others, while the appearance aspect of the deity's form does not cease, meditate that its essence is ungraspable and that self-awareness is inseparable from appearance-emptiness. Just as when settling the co-emergent appearance, all appearances are introduced as ungraspable appearance-emptiness self-awareness without ceasing the appearance aspect while appearing. That is, in equipoise, the deity's form

Sustain that very appearance of emptiness without letting the memory of self-awareness be distracted for even a moment. In subsequent awareness and subsequent appearances, maintain a continuous stream of that memory, and for a while, train in not separating from the apprehension of the deity's illusory form. If there is no view of the nature of emptiness as it is, then one should contemplate and meditate on the deity's form appearance as being without inherent existence, like an illusion, just like a reflection in a mirror. The way in which that deity's form, emptiness, and union are illustrated by the twelve examples of illusion is as follows: Although not truly established, it is complete with limbs and parts in just the aspect of appearance, like an illusory person. One that pervades everywhere is like the moon in the sky appearing in its entirety in water. That which is not established as a substantial thing like flesh and bones is like a shadow seen by an eye affliction. Moving in an instant is like a mirage. That which is made up of mind alone is like a body in a dream. That which is born from causes and conditions is like an echo. Appearing but without certainty is like a city of গন্ধর্ব (Gandharva, dri za'i grong khyer, गन्धर्व, gandarva, 寻香城). Being able to appear as many from one is like a cloud or a magic trick. Color that is clear and unobstructed is like a rainbow. Impermanent and swift is like lightning. Rising in an instant is like a water bubble. Appearing but without inherent existence is like a reflection in a mirror. Third, enhancing stability has two parts: training in the skill of the deity's illusory form and engaging in entering and emerging in clear light. The first is: when the mind becomes very stable in that deity's form that is like an illusion, then the deity's form itself is gradually increased, and one remains in equipoise in a body so large that it fills the world realm, and gradually reduced, and one remains in equipoise in a body as small as a mustard seed, and from one emanating two, from two emanating four, etc., expanding to be equal to the number of dust particles in the world realm, and again gradually gathering those into the root deity's form, etc., and remaining in equipoise. In all subsequent awareness and subsequent appearances, one trains in transforming the external world and especially the mountains and houses, etc., that appear to one's own sense consciousness and mind, into celestial mansions, and one trains in visualizing all sentient beings, especially all sentient beings that appear to one's sense consciousness and mind, as the deities of the retinue. Furthermore, one should view form appearances, the deity's form, appearances, mantras, memories, thoughts, the nature of reality, desirable qualities, and offerings as offerings, and train in all ordinary appearances. Those
