Make supplications, offer mandalas, and strive to please the lama. Third, purify possessions, abandon attachment to anything, and meditate on impermanence. Fourth, stay alone, do not associate with sinners or those without vows, and avoid corpses and unclean things. Recite the Hundred Syllable Mantra. The four distractions are: waking distraction, delusion distraction, forgetting distraction, and continuous distraction. Waking distraction is: thinking you are still asleep while in the middle of practice and stopping, or thinking you have woken up and stopping the practice, or waking up suddenly before finishing the dream. For this, do not interrupt the practice, but repeat it again and again. If you wake up suddenly, examine the cause. If you wake up due to noise, sleep in a deserted place. If you wake up because you are too happy after completion, relax your mind. If you wake up due to karma, practice tummo or wear thick clothes. Second, delusion distraction is: not knowing it is a dream in the dream, and being completely deluded. For this, generate devotion and pray, and repeatedly and strongly remember that all appearances are dreams and illusions. Third, forgetting distraction is forgetting without having generated grasping, etc. For this, practice grasping and strongly remember to dream clearly. Fourth, dullness distraction is not having a dream, or not recognizing it even if you have a dream. Fourth, meditating on the reality of dreams is: all appearances in dreams are the transformations of the mind, good and bad are all performances of illusion, all forms are appearance-empty, sounds are sound-empty, the mind from the beginning is free from the three—birth, cessation, and abiding. There is no difference between dream and daytime appearances, all are unreal, self-arising, and self-liberating. Like an illusion, abide in emptiness and so on. This is the pith instruction for self-liberation from delusion in dreams. Fourth, the five aspects of clearing away the darkness of ignorance with clear light are: relying on the key points of the body to settle the mind in its place, relying on the key points of the body to recognize meditation, grasping the elephant of ignorance with the eye of wisdom, recognizing the wisdom of samadhi, and developing the potential of subsequent action clear light. The first is: in a secluded place, wash the body with warm water, then with perfume, then with alcohol, then with beeswax or, if not available, with butter, and then with fragrant perfume. Stop physical activities and sit comfortably, consume food of skillful means and wisdom, and stay awake for three nights.

It should be done like this. Second, there are four points to identify the practice based on the essential points of the place: the essential point of time, the essential point of place, the essential point of body, and the essential point of object. The essential point of time is: the time from midnight to sunrise, and the time from falling asleep to not dreaming, is the time when the prana enters the central channel. The essential point of place is: just as the Chakravartin King does not go beyond the four continents, one's own awareness does not go beyond the four chakras: usually it resides in the navel chakra, during sleep it resides in the heart chakra, during dreams it resides in the throat chakra, and during absorption it resides in the crown chakra. Therefore, the place is the heart, and the essential point is to abide in the Dharma-wheel. The essential point of the body is: right side down, left side up, in the lion posture, or squatting sleep. Head facing east, the direction of Manifest Joy. The essential point of the object is: inside the tip of the heart pointing upwards, visualize a blue lotus with eight petals, in the center of the lotus is a blue Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hūṃ), on the petals in the four directions, in front is white A (Tibetan: ཨ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Chinese literal meaning: A), on the right is yellow Nu (Tibetan: ནུ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नु, Sanskrit Romanization: nu, Chinese literal meaning: Nu), behind is red Ta (Tibetan: ཏ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: त, Sanskrit Romanization: ta, Chinese literal meaning: Ta), and on the left is green Ra (Tibetan: ར།, Sanskrit Devanagari: र, Sanskrit Romanization: ra, Chinese literal meaning: Ra), visualize them clearly. Third, grasping the elephant of ignorance with the eye of wisdom: the lama is the eye of wisdom, and the disciple is the elephant of ignorance. There are two points to this: tying the elephant with a silk thread vajra peg, and awakening the sleep of ignorance with a precious hammer. The first point is: tie a fathom-long cotton thread to the disciple's hair, and then tie it to the lama's little finger. The precious hammer is: take a fathom-long thin wooden stick, and wrap a cotton cloth bag around the top. Then, first offer a tsokhor to the lama, earnestly pray to the lineage lamas, bless one's own disciple to realize luminosity. Light a butter lamp that can burn all night, decorate the torma with abundant meat as a pledge, offer the essence of the dakini's food, the disciple strictly keeps the vows, protects the bindu, practices guru yoga and prays. Since the way of falling asleep and dying are similar, the process of the four elements dissolving is: first, when falling asleep, earth dissolves into water, the body feels heavy and swaying, consciousness becomes dark and blurred, and saliva slowly flows out. Water dissolves into fire, the forehead feels hot, and the eyes close tightly. Fire dissolves into wind, the nose makes snoring sounds. Wind dissolves into consciousness, and daytime thoughts cease.
