Whatever sound is heard, when it arises, its nature is emptiness; sound and emptiness are like an illusion. Whenever thoughts arise in the mind, when they are clear as thoughts, their nature is emptiness, so meditate and purify the mind's clarity and emptiness as an illusion. Second, introducing wisdom through the light of the sun and moon has three aspects: training in times of change, introducing the rays of the sun and moon, and establishing appearances as unreal by illustrating them with twelve examples of illusion. First: In an instant, visualize yourself as Jetsunma (Tara) and clearly establish the five sense objects. Display a thangka of Jetsunma in front of you and focus your mind on it. Meditate in your mind and speak aloud, "This is illusion, this is a dream." Then, put away the thangka and meditate on the yidam. When you look outward, all the deities appear only to be empty, and only emptiness appears. Meditate on appearance and emptiness as illusion and dream. If awareness does not abide in this, then dissolve the deity in front of you into yourself. Rest in the state of being inseparable from Jetsunma. To remedy this flaw, clearly establish the Guru Yoga. Repeat and meditate, "Wisdom Dakini, illusory body, the very nature of illusion and emptiness, emptiness is inexpressible." Pray for blessings to perfect the illusory body. Thus pray. To elaborate, pray to the lineage, "Great Vajradhara, illusory body." Because all of that is illusion, it is empty. Because it is empty, it is unborn. Because it is unborn, it is free from elaboration. Because it is free from elaboration, it is the Dharmakaya. Cut through decisively with this understanding. Remain in that state, relaxed and at ease, maintaining awareness. Second, introducing the rays of the sun and moon: In a room without a roof, or by making four dark holes in the four directions and cleaning them with a duster. In the morning, face east; at noon, face south; in the evening, face west. In line with the eastern dark hole, place a sword; in the south, a mirror; in the west, pomegranate juice; in the north, a scripture. In this way, whatever appears will appear as unreal. Appearance is the interdependent arising like a blind person groping. Hang a new thangka of the yidam Vajrasattva behind you. As before, visualize the guru and yidam and pray. Focus your awareness on the deity appearing in the water and the mirror. At times, perform four examinations on the deity and so on appearing in the water and the mirror. If it appears from existence, it cannot be grasped even if you try to grasp it. If it appears from non-existence, then it did not come from within. This is also the Than

It is not produced from a painting and comes here. The deity is not suddenly produced from elsewhere and dissolves here. Since it appears as a mere false appearance of gathering interdependent origination without it existing, likewise, understand all the phenomena of samsara and nirvana and all present appearances. At the end of the session, dissolve the deity into oneself. Oneself and all appearances are illusions. Because they are illusions, explain emptiness and so on. Third, establishing appearances as unreal by exemplifying the twelve illusions: Because it is accomplished by causes and conditions, it is an illusion. Because it is accompanied by movement, it is a mirage. Because it appears without a place or enjoyment, it is a city of gandharvas. Because it appears but has no self-nature, it is a rainbow. Because it is clear and complete, it is a reflection in a mirror. Because it pervades all, it is a moon in water. Because one's own is seen as another, it is an echo. Because it is accompanied by mind, it is a dream. Because it is impermanent and swift, it is lightning. Because it appears without existing, it is an optical illusion. Because one appears as many, it is a cloud. Because of various forms, it is an emanation. For the meaning of these, sometimes look outward, sometimes look inward. Dissolve it into oneself and meditate as before. Third, dissolving the knots of the eight worldly dharmas of praise and blame: Gather the deity and let one's own image appear in the mirror. Utter one's own name and even if you say that you are a brave man, virtuous, generous, and so on, there is no happiness. Even if you say that you have broken vows, violated commitments, and so on, there is no unhappiness. For things that are like illusions, there is no coming of happiness or unhappiness, but actually it is equanimity. Even if others are giving praise, do not be happy or unhappy about it, and make two examinations of it: If they praise because there are qualities, since it does not increase by being spoken, one should not be happy. If they praise without qualities, it is scattering empty words of praise, and one should not be happy. If others are giving blame, do not be unhappy. Make two examinations of it: If they blame because there are faults, since they are speaking of what exists, one should not be unhappy. If there are no faults, it is empty words, and one should not be unhappy. Likewise, if it appears as pleasant and happy, do not be happy about it. Make three examinations of it: The body is like a corpse, and happiness and well-being are not established in it. Speech is like an echo, and happiness and well-being are not established in it. Mind is like the sky, and happiness and well-being are not established in it. For the appearance that is not established, that is an illusion. Do not be happy about the illusion. If an appearance of suffering arises, do not be unhappy. Make three examinations of it.
