There is no way to describe the sky like this. Likewise, even if one speaks of the clear light of one's own mind, there is no basis for establishing a term saying that it is established as such by speaking. Thus, the nature of the mind is originally like the sky. There is nothing that is not contained in it. Let go of all bodily activities, and the yogi should abide in peace. There is no speech, like the sound of an echo in a rock, empty of sound. Do not think of anything in your mind, but look at the Dharma of repetition. The body is like a bamboo tree, without essence. The mind is like the center of the sky, beyond the realm of thought. In that state, let it go without letting go. If the mind has no support, it is the Great Seal. If you become accustomed to it, you will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. Speaking mantras, practicing the Paramitas, the Vinaya, the Sutras, the Tripitaka, etc., and with their own tenets and philosophical positions, the clear light Great Seal will not be seen. Because of the arising of desire, the clear light is obscured and not seen. Protecting vows with conceptual thoughts diminishes the meaning of the vows. Do not think in your mind, be free from all desires for peace. Self-arising, self-pacifying, like ripples on water. If you do not abide, do not fixate, do not deviate from the meaning, and do not transgress the vows, it is a lamp in the darkness. If you can abandon all desires and not abide at any extreme, you will see all the Tripitaka Dharmas completely. If you focus on this meaning, you will be liberated from the prison of samsara. If you meditate on this meaning, you will burn all sins and obscurations. This is said to be the "lamp of the teachings." Those foolish beings who do not believe in this meaning are always carried away by the flood of samsara. It is pitiful that they suffer the miseries of the lower realms. If you want to be liberated from this unbearable suffering, you should rely on a qualified lama. If the blessings of the lama enter your heart, your own mind will be liberated. Alas! These samsaric dharmas are meaningless, the cause of suffering. The dharmas that are done are meaningless, so look at the meaningful essence. If you transcend all grasping, you are the king of views. If you are without distraction, you are the king of meditation. If you are without effort, you are the king of action. If you are without hope and fear, the result will manifest. Transcending the object of focus, the nature of the mind will be clear. There is no path to travel, you will grasp the path to Buddhahood. There is no object of meditation, if you become accustomed to it, you will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. Alas! If you understand the dharmas of the world well, you will know that everything is impermanent, like a dream, like an illusion. Dreams and illusions are meaningless.

It is not in it. Therefore, generate renunciation and abandon worldly affairs. Cut off all attachments, hatred, and connections in samsara. Meditate alone in the secluded places at the edge of the forest. Abide in the state of non-meditation. If you attain the unattainable, you will attain the Mahamudra. For example, the trunk, branches, leaves of a tree flourish, if one root is cut, hundreds of thousands of branches will wither. Likewise, if the root of the mind is cut, the leaves of samsara will wither. For example, even if darkness accumulated for a thousand eons, a single lamp dispels all the darkness. Likewise, a single instant of the clear light of one's own mind dispels the ignorance and obscurations accumulated over eons. Alas! With the dharma of the intellect, one cannot see the meaning beyond the intellect. With the dharma of action, one cannot realize the meaning of non-action. If you wish to attain the meaning beyond intellect and non-action, leave your mind naked, cutting off the root. Let the water of defiled thoughts become clear. Do not accept or reject appearances, leave them in their natural state. Without acceptance or rejection, let appearances and existence be liberated as Mahamudra. In the state of co-emergent non-birth, abandon habitual tendencies and obscurations. Do not cling to arrogance and calculation, abide in the essence of non-birth. Let appearances and all the dharmas of the intellect be exhausted. Completely liberated from extremes, is the king of views. Boundless and profound, is the king of meditation. Cutting off extremes and biases, is the king of conduct. Self-liberation without seeking, is the supreme of results. Karma is initially like water in a gorge, in the middle like the Ganges River flowing slowly, and finally like a mother and child meeting. If a person of inferior intellect does not abide in this state, they will grasp the essential point of the wind and lose awareness in the essence. With various views and branches of holding the mind, awareness does not abide, but is bound in the middle. If you rely on karma mudra, the wisdom of bliss and emptiness will arise. The blessings of skillful means and wisdom are equally integrated. Slowly descend, contract, reverse, guide, transfer to various places, and pervade the body. If there is no attachment to this, the wisdom of bliss and emptiness will arise. Longevity without white hair, increasing like the moon. Radiance is clear and strength is like a lion. Quickly attain common accomplishments and turn towards supreme accomplishment. May this essential instruction of Mahamudra abide in the hearts of fortunate beings! Spoken by the great Tilopa, the lord of Mahamudra accomplishment, and Kashmir's learned and accomplished Pandit Naropa, who endured twelve hardships.
