Through the gateway of speech, recite: "I and all sentient beings, who have been our mothers, reaching to the ends of space, from this time until I reach the heart of enlightenment, I take refuge in the precious Lama Buddha. I take refuge in the holy Dharma, the essence of scripture and realization. I take refuge in the Sangha of noble Bodhisattvas." Having taken refuge as much as possible, through the blessings of the three precious jewels, may my mind turn towards the Dharma. Bless me to enter the path of Dharma, to dispel wrong paths, to have mistaken appearances arise as wisdom, and that not even for a moment will non-Dharmic thoughts arise in my mind. Bless me to quickly attain Buddhahood. Thus, I pray. Secondly, the generation of Bodhicitta: For the sake of all sentient beings, I shall attain the state of perfect Buddhahood, this is aspiration. For that purpose, I shall train in the profound stages of the Great Vehicle path, this is engagement. Keeping in mind the meaning of aspiration and engagement Bodhicitta, recite: I take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, until enlightenment. By the merit of my generosity and other virtues, may I attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all beings.

As stated by Master Shantideva in "A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "This leisure is extremely difficult to obtain. Having obtained it and being able to accomplish something meaningful, if I do not make use of it, then there will be no such benefit again." As such, this leisure and endowment, which serves as the basis for practicing the supreme Dharma, is also difficult to obtain. Therefore, one should repeatedly contemplate that upon obtaining this human form, one must practice pure Dharma. If explained in a slightly more detailed manner, there are four aspects: contemplating the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of cause, contemplating the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of number, contemplating the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of analogy, and contemplating the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of essence. First, to obtain a pure leisure and endowment, one must engage in virtuous actions such as upholding moral discipline and abandon all non-virtuous actions. However, among the beings of the three realms, those who engage in virtuous actions are few, and those who engage in non-virtuous actions are extremely numerous. Therefore, one should contemplate the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of cause. Second, observing the realms of sentient beings, the hell beings are as numerous as tiny dust particles, the hungry ghosts are as numerous as blizzards, and the animals are as numerous as the dregs of beer. Compared to these, obtaining a pure human body is extremely rare. Therefore, one should contemplate the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of number. Third, in "A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life," it is said: "Therefore, the Bhagavan Buddha said that being human is extremely difficult, like a blind turtle's neck entering a yoke hole." As it is said, it is like a blind turtle in the great ocean that comes to the surface once every hundred years, and there is a golden yoke with a hole in it, tossed about by the waves of the ocean, and the blind turtle's neck happens to fit into the hole of the yoke. Although there are countless types of sentient beings, being born as a human is as rare as that. Therefore, one should contemplate the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of analogy. Fourth, being born as a mute, a barbarian, etc., being free from the eight unfavorable conditions, and possessing the ten endowments is rare. Therefore, one should contemplate the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of essence. Second, contemplating the impermanence of death. Master Warrior said in "The Removal of Sorrow": "Thus, for all who are born, death is always in front." As it is said, all who are born will inevitably die in the end. Let's explain this a little.

As it is said: "Hungry ghosts, animals, long-lived gods, and borderlanders, those with wrong views, and times without Buddhas, the mute—these are the eight unfree states." Thus, abandon the eight unfree states. The ten endowments are: "A human body, born in the central land, with complete faculties, not having reversed karma, and having faith in the place." These are the five self-endowments. "The teacher has come and taught the Dharma, the teachings remain and one follows them, and having love in one's heart for others." These are the five other-endowments. Having the ten endowments, the human body possessing the eighteen qualities of leisure and endowment is difficult to obtain, and should be explained in accordance with the wisdom of oneself and others. One should contemplate the need to quickly practice the Dharma. To explain them briefly: contemplate that death is certain, contemplate that there is no certainty when one will die, and contemplate that at the time of death, nothing other than the Dharma will be of benefit. Firstly, in general, all compounded things are of the nature of impermanence, and must ultimately perish. As the Sutra of Extensive Play says: "The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds, the birth and death of beings is like watching a dance, the life of beings is like lightning in the sky, like water flowing rapidly down a steep cliff." Thus it is said. In particular, the teacher Hero said: "Even the form body of the Buddhas, adorned with marks and signs, the vajra body is impermanent, what need is there to mention a body like a water bubble?" Thus it is said, even the perfectly enlightened Buddha who has attained the state of immortality, shows the aspect of passing into nirvana, then ordinary beings must certainly die, thus one should contemplate. The teacher Hero said: "The five great sages with clairvoyance, even those who travel unobstructed in the sky, have not reached a place where there is an immortal realm." Thus it is said, no matter where one is born in the three realms, there is no place that can withstand death, therefore one must certainly die, thus one should practice. Because the causes of death are many and the causes of life are few, one must certainly die. The teacher Nagarjuna said in the Garland of Jewels: "The causes of death are very many, the causes of life are very few, even those themselves become causes of death, therefore one should always accumulate Dharma." Thus it is said, therefore, some of the places, food, and enjoyments that are considered to be causes of life will also turn into causes of death, therefore one must certainly
