The Sixth Volume of the Instructions Treasury. Concerning Mind Training: Separating from the Four Attachments. Herein concludes the section on Mind Training: Separating from the Four Attachments. When the Great Sakya Master was twelve years old, he practiced the sadhana of the noble Manjushri for six months. One time, in the midst of a mass of light, he saw a jeweled throne. Upon it sat the venerable Manjushri, reddish-yellow in color, with the hand gesture of teaching the Dharma, seated in a posture of excellence. Attendants, two bodhisattvas, were present on his right and left. He directly saw this, and from the mouth of the main figure came the words: "If you are attached to this life, you are not a Dharma practitioner. If you are attached to the three realms, you have no renunciation. If you are attached to self-interest, you are not a bodhisattva. If attachment arises, you have no view." Reflecting on the meaning of these words, he realized that all the practices of the path of the perfections are included in the mind training of separating from the four attachments. Thus, he obtained a special certainty about all the teachings. Sa ma sta mi thi. The Sixth Volume of the Instructions Treasury. The Four Separations by Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen. The Four Separations by Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen is complete. To the kind lama and the compassionate yidam deity, from the depths of my heart I go for refuge. Please bless me! There is no need for non-Dharmic conduct. In order to practice according to the Dharma, I seek the instructions on the Four Separations. Now I make this request to you. The homage and the vow to explain are shown. If you are attached to this life, you are not a Dharma practitioner. If you are attached to samsara, you have no renunciation. If you are attached to self-interest, you are not a bodhisattva. If attachment arises, you have no view. First, not being attached to this life. The three of ethics, learning, and contemplation, if they are practiced with the aim of this life, then that is not a Dharma practitioner, but a postponement. First, the root of explaining ethics, is the root of accomplishing higher realms, is the ladder for accomplishing liberation, is the antidote for abandoning suffering. Ethics are indispensable. However, ethics with attachment to this life, are the root of accomplishing the eight worldly concerns, scolding those who break their vows, being jealous of those who keep their vows, one's own ethics

O Pig-like one! Possessing the seeds for creating evil destinies. Abandon artificial discipline! Those who engage in study and contemplation, possess the enjoyment of accomplishing knowledge, possess the lamp that dispels ignorance, possess the path to guide beings, possess the seed of the Dharmakaya. There is no way to be without study and contemplation, but the study and contemplation that clings to this life, possesses the enjoyment of accomplishing pride, possesses contempt for those with inferior study and contemplation, possesses jealousy towards those with abundant study and contemplation, possesses the seeking of retinue and possessions, possesses the root of creating evil destinies. Abandon study and contemplation for the eight worldly concerns! All those who practice meditation, possess the antidote to abandon afflictions, possess the root of accomplishing the path to liberation, possess the seed of accomplishing Buddhahood. There is no way to be without meditation, but the meditation that aims at this life, though dwelling in solitude, is full of distractions, possesses the recitation of empty talk, possesses the denigration of those who study and contemplate, possesses jealousy towards other meditators, one's own meditation is full of distractions. Abandon contemplation for the eight worldly concerns! Up to this point, from the Abhidharmakosha, "Those who abide in discipline, dwell in solitude, and possess study and contemplation, should diligently engage in meditation," the distinction between the genuine and the apparent has been clearly shown. The method of contemplating the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment and the impermanence of death has been implied. To accomplish Nirvana, one should also abandon attachment to the three realms. To abandon attachment to the three realms, one should remember the faults of samsara. First, the suffering of suffering is the suffering of the three evil destinies. If one thinks about it well, one's hair will stand on end. If it falls on one's head, there is no way to bear it. Without cultivating the virtue of abandonment, but cultivating the field of evil destinies, wherever one is, one is at a loss. When thinking about the suffering of change, there are those who fall from the heavens to evil destinies, there are those who are born as ordinary beings from Indra, there are those where the sun and moon become dark, there are those where the Chakravartin becomes a servant. Although one believes after being shown the scriptures, ordinary people cannot understand it, so observe the changes of people's own appearances. Rich people become beggars, eloquent people become foolish, many people become solitary. Such things are beyond comprehension. When thinking about the suffering of conditioning, there is no time to attend to one's tasks. Many people also suffer, and few people also
