Pa'o. As for conduct, at the time of death, place the right side of the body underneath. Rest the cheek on the right hand, block the right nostril with the little finger, and let the breath flow from the left. Then, with love and compassion as the forerunners, adjust the flow of breath and practice both giving and taking. After that, understand that all things such as samsara, nirvana, birth, and death are appearances of the mind, and that the nature of the mind is not established as anything at all. In this state, rest without grasping at anything with the mind. In this way, one should die while continuing to cultivate and develop these two aspects of bodhicitta. It is said that there are many exaggerations in the instructions for the time of death, and there is nothing more wonderful than this. Fifth, showing the measure of having mastered the mind: All dharmas converge into one necessity. And so on. The necessity of all the dharmas of the great and small vehicles is that they converge into taming self-grasping. If it does not become an antidote to self-grasping, then all the dharma practices become meaningless. If the dharma practices do indeed become an antidote to self-grasping, then that is a sign that mind training has arisen in the lineage. The difference between whether dharma has truly become dharma or not lies in this. It is said that this is the scale for weighing practitioners. Hold the main one of the two witnesses. That is to say, others say: Dharma has arisen in the lineage of Jowo (Atisha), and that is what it means to be a good practitioner. Although not being ashamed by others is also a witness, that is not the main one. Because ordinary people do not understand my mind, they may be satisfied even if they only see a few external behaviors. Therefore, not being deceived by one's own mind is the main witness. By examining carefully with an honest mind, if you do not deceive yourself, that is a sign of having mastered the mind, so generate the antidote and strive not to deceive yourself. Always rely on ease of mind alone. That is to say, by the power of having trained the mind well, from now on, no matter what misfortune occurs, if you settle on the confidence that it is enough to take it as a response to mind training, that is the measure of having mastered the mind. Therefore, no matter what misfortune occurs, cultivate joy in it, and on top of that, train to have no fear of taking on all the misfortunes of others as well. If you can cope even when distracted, then you have mastered it. That is to say, just as a skilled horseman does not fall from the horse even when distracted, when a harmful influence suddenly appears without warning,

When misfortune occurs, do not generate anger, etc., but quickly turn the misfortune itself into a companion for mind training, because it is for the sake of accomplishing mind training. Strive to change in this way and learn. These degrees of accomplishment are signs that mind training has arisen in the continuum, but it is not to say that once accomplished, there is no need to train further. Even if these signs appear, strive to train the mind. Sixth, the vows of mind training are taught, such as "Always train in the three generalities." The three generalities are: not contradicting the commitment of mind training, not falling into scandal, and not being biased towards one side. First, saying "I am a mind trainer," one should abandon the act of belittling minor precepts, and with an intention in accordance with mind training, from individual liberation vows to Vajrayana, protect the precepts that one has vowed, without letting them decline. Second, in order for others to understand that one is without self-cherishing, one should take on scandalous behaviors such as cutting down sacred trees and associating with lepers. One should not contradict the Kadampa tradition established by Geshe Dromtönpa at Radreng Monastery. Third, one should abandon all biased behaviors such as being able to tolerate harm from humans but not harm from gods and demons, respecting the great but despising the small, loving relatives but hating enemies, and train to accomplish all. "Transform intention and remain in one's own place" means to transform the mind that previously cherished oneself to now cherish others instead of oneself. One's bodily and verbal actions should be like those of Dharma friends, able to keep secrets. Therefore, all mind training should be inconspicuous but firm in resolve. One should ripen the continuum without others noticing. "Do not speak of impaired limbs" means not to speak unpleasant words about others' worldly faults, such as disabilities, or about monastics' faults, such as broken vows. "Do not think of any other side" means that in general, if one sees faults in all sentient beings, especially those who have entered the Dharma, one should think that it is because one's own perception is impure and that they are unlikely to have such faults. One should think in this way and dispel the mind that seeks faults.
