"Training the mind." This means: Examine which afflictions are strongest in your own mindstream, and then gather all the Dharma teachings as an antidote to that, and subdue that one first. Abandon all expectations of results. This means: By practicing mind training, you should abandon all self-interest, such as the gains and honors of this life, the happiness of gods and humans in the next life, and the desire to attain liberation for yourself. Abandon poisonous food. This means: All virtuous actions mixed with the conceptual thoughts of grasping at reality and cherishing the self are like food mixed with poison, so abandon them. Do not rely on a good government. This means: Holding a grudge against the harm done by others and never turning away from that grudge should be abandoned. Do not speak harsh words. This means: In response to harsh words spoken by others, do not speak harsh words that harm the minds of others, and if a fault occurs, do not say, "This is retribution." Do not wait for an opportunity. This means: Holding the harm done by others in your heart and waiting for the time to repay the harm, that repayment should be abandoned. Do not inflict harm. This means: Do not engage in actions that cause great harm to the minds of others, such as digging up people's faults and chanting mantras of killing against non-humans. Do not transfer the mule's burden to the ox. This means: Abandoning such behavior of shifting the responsibility or bad things that fall on oneself to others through deceitful means. Do not aim for the top quickly. This means: Abandoning the thought and action of wanting to obtain shared possessions for oneself through various means. Do not perform inverted rituals. This means: Wanting oneself to be good and causing others to fail, and practicing mind training in order to pacify ghosts or illnesses is like performing rituals, so abandon your own desires. This mind training, with its conceptual thoughts of one faction, seems to be understood as one method that benefits ghosts and demons. If you do that, there is no difference from doing Bön. It is said that Dharma practice must be something that goes against afflictions and conceptual thoughts. Do not bring gods down as demons. This means: Just like worldly people, if their own god is not pleased and causes harm to them, they say that the god has become a demon. If you become arrogant and conceited through the means of mind training, then the Dharma has become non-Dharma. Mind training

One should tame one's own mind. If one's mind is particularly stiff with pride, then one cannot grasp the essential points of the Dharma, like an evil spirit causing harm from the east gate, while offerings are sent to the west gate. Therefore, medicine should be applied to the disease, self-cherishing should be abandoned, and all beings should be treated like the lowest of servants. It is said: Do not seek suffering on the branches of happiness. This means that when one's relatives and friends die, one thinks that their food, wealth, and books will come to me; when patrons become sick or die, one thinks that one can accumulate offerings; when fellow practitioners die, one thinks that only I will gain merit; when enemies die, one thinks that there will be no harm-doers, and I feel satisfied, and so on. One should abandon the thought of wanting others to suffer in order for oneself to be happy. Seventh, teaching the instructions of mind training, which is to learn the methods to prevent mind training from declining and to make it grow. To this, it is said: All yogas are done with one. This means that all yogas, such as food and clothing, should be done with the sole intention of benefiting others. All reversals are done with one. This means that when practicing mind training, if illnesses, demonic influences, hateful words from others, or one's own afflictions increase, causing one to not want to practice mind training, then one should think that there are many sentient beings in the world who are suffering in the same way, generate compassion, and think that all their sufferings may gather upon me, and thus practice exchanging self and others. At the beginning and the end, there are two tasks each. This means that in the morning, one should make the aspiration to not be separated from the two bodhicittas today, and during the day, one should also maintain mindfulness. In the evening, when going to bed, one should examine one's actions during the day. If there were actions that contradicted bodhicitta, then one should scold oneself and confess, and make the determination to not do them again in the future. If there were no contradictions, then one should cultivate joy and think that one will continue to act in the same way in the future. Whatever happens, one should endure. This means that if one obtains perfect retinues and resources, one should not become arrogant, but should know that they are like illusions, and do whatever one can to benefit others. If one becomes extremely impoverished, even to the point of being completely destitute, one should also regard it as an illusion.
