Not clinging to the appearance of things is called Vipassana. First, practice in short sessions with many repetitions. Once stability is achieved, maintain it for as long as possible. If you wish to rise from meditation, cultivate compassion for sentient beings and dedicate the roots of virtue. In the beginning, alternate between practicing relative and ultimate truth. Once you are accustomed, even if everything is not yet accomplished, regard the relative as merely an illusion without clinging to truth, and practice giving and taking. Third, afterwards: Through the saying "three objects, three poisons," the three poisons arise dependent on the three objects, and transform them into three roots of virtue, that is, when attachment arises from seeing beautiful forms with the eyes, take the attachment of sentient beings into the center of your heart, and give your body, possessions, and all roots of virtue to all sentient beings, contemplating that all sentient beings possess the root of virtue free from attachment. For the unpleasant, practice freedom from hatred, and for the arising of ignorance, practice in the same way. Similarly, for sounds heard by the ears, smells smelled by the nose, tastes tasted by the tongue, and tactile sensations touched by the body, even if three each occur, practice. In all activities, purify with words. This means that in all activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, contemplate that all the suffering and the causes of suffering of all sentient beings ripen in me right now. May I be destroyed! May I go to the utter destruction of non-existence! May my body, possessions, and all virtues benefit all sentient beings! May all the qualities of the path and the fruit manifest right now, and so on, practice in this way as well. By practicing in this way, it is said that the mind follows the words, so that (merit) arises quickly. The "One Session of Mind Training" was written by the Abbot Chim Namkha Drakchen of glorious Narthang Monastery, may virtue be as vast as the sky! Homage! This is the mind training given by Jowo (Atisha) to the pure jewel of the crown. Although the sky of knowable things has no limit, it is encompassed by emptiness and compassion. To the gurus such as Lamp Illuminating Glory, I prostrate with reverence in body, speech, and mind. The advice given by Lord Atisha when he went to Tibet was: Give me this precious heart of love. Child, this sky has no cause or condition, who would think it exists?

Without grasping, who can grasp? Understand all phenomena thus, you should understand thus! If there is error in this, errors are very many. Abide equally in the likeness of the sky, alone! However, when a rainbow gathers in the sky, it appears beautiful and arises as if it truly exists, you should know! Who has not seen that this has causes and conditions? However, the interdependence is excellent, son of a wise one! The rainbow moves in the sky and vanishes into the sky. Who has not seen that this has causes and conditions? This is also interdependence, excellent son of a wise one! If you examine it well, does the rainbow in the sky have different distinctions, son of a wise one? From the beginning, in the emptiness, in the reality of Dharma, arises unbearable compassion for beings. Although compassion arises, it arises from the realm of Dharma. It also dissolves into the realm of Dharma, you should know! All of samsara and nirvana are your own mind; who has not seen that this has causes and conditions? If you examine and analyze, it is like a rainbow in the sky. Therefore, just as the sky is like a rainbow, understand emptiness and compassion, you should know! From the deep depths of any ocean, one sees the turbulent waves surging from above. Although the waves arise, they arise from the ocean itself. They also dissolve into the ocean itself, you should know! Who has not seen that there are different distinctions between the surging waves and the deep ocean? Likewise, from spontaneously accomplished emptiness, compassion arises, agitating and disturbing beings. Although compassion arises, it arises from the nature of emptiness. It also dissolves into emptiness itself, you should know! Like a mirror cleansed of tarnish, when various images appear clearly, does it arise from the mirror itself or from external forms? Is it something else, or without cause? Wherever you analyze, the world is merely interdependence. The two, what has never existed and appearance, who has not seen that they have different distinctions? Likewise, in emptiness, which is like a mirror, just as images appear though they have never existed, rely on emptiness and compassion, son of a wise one! Even when the reflection of a crystal moon appears in clear water, one may be deluded by the appearance of duality, but who has not seen that there is a distinction of establishment? From emptiness, which is like a clear sky, unbearable compassion arises for beings. Although compassion arises, it arises from the nature of emptiness.
