It is said that even gurus and others cannot praise, but if seen as an enemy, it will bring benefit. Thus, if you see yourself as an enemy, even if harm from non-humans and spirits occurs, it is harming the enemy. It is becoming a friend in the fight against self-grasping. Since I am a large army on the evil side, it is unreasonable to be angry with the harmer, so I should look at them with joy. At that point, a genuine Dharma that liberates from the encounter with bad circumstances will surely come. At that point, you will reach your destination. In this way, now divide yourself and others into two: enemy and friend, and practice. Alternately divide yourself into two: enemy and friend, and practice. Label the thought and action of accomplishing self-interest with a worldly name, and label the thought and action of accomplishing the interest of others with a Dharma name. Follow Geshe Ben and adopt and abandon with your right and left hands. Geshe Ben said, "Now is not the time to seal the gate of the mind with a single antidote knot; you won't find anything else to do. If he tightens, I tighten too. If he loosens, I loosen too." He said, "Do it with consideration, and let go as if hammering a peg into each pig's snout." All sutras and treatises teach that there is nothing else to do but abandon self-grasping. This teaches to see oneself as an enemy and abandon self-grasping. The teachings of Shawa-ba are called the Dharma of sending away demons. Secondly, to regard sentient beings as friends and cherish them is taught by "Meditate on all beings as being very kind." In this, the teachings of Shawa-ba say that this is the "Dharma of taking flesh and taking blood." It is also said to be the "Dharma of taking bad omens as auspiciousness." Specifically, cultivate love and compassion towards the harmer, and practice giving and taking. First, cultivate love, which is to think that this being who harms me, whether human or non-human, has been my parents, relatives, and friends since beginningless time, with relationships as numerous as the dense thickets. Look at them with loving eyes, embrace them with a loving heart, protect them from harm and disadvantage, and help them with all benefits and happiness, thinking that they are the only benefactors! Thinking in this way, generate closeness, and even if you put them in your heart, it won't be hot, but look at them as if they were your own heart's treasure. Jowo said, "Your own deity and guru"

Thus it is said. Furthermore, cultivating compassion is not about this one harming me now. Harm arises from delusion. From beginningless time, without hesitation, I have acted for my own benefit regarding all sins, sufferings, and evil words. By accumulating afflictions and negative karma, I have wandered endlessly in samsara, experiencing suffering. All these faults ultimately rest with me. Even now, as I strive for enlightenment for the sake of others, my negative karma compels the elderly mother, involuntarily causing obstacles, thereby hindering the happiness of all sentient beings. Therefore, the fault of falling into hell in the next life also ultimately rests with me. Thinking this, cultivate compassion like a spark of fire hitting bare flesh. In this way, cultivate loving-kindness and compassion specifically directed towards the one who causes harm. By cultivating in this way, non-humans, possessing subtle clairvoyance due to karma, will come to know us as "Ma" (mother) and understand us as "Bu" (son). In this way, when the thought of being like a mother arises, how could harm occur? If I treat everyone like a mother, then everyone will treat me like a son, this is the natural order, and at that point, one will be liberated from suffering. The Sutra Collection states: "In the human world, there are many elemental demons and diseases. They are pacified by the truth of blessings through benefit and compassion." Thus, by cultivating loving-kindness and compassion towards the one who causes harm, one will think: From beginningless time, this one has only accomplished benefits for me, while I have only inflicted harm! Now I too should repay with benefit and protect from harm. In this way, alternate between giving and taking, and practice. Take all the leprosy and diseases in the world upon oneself. Take all the negative karma that will ripen in one's own life's end and future lives upon this present illness, and cultivate joy. Again, practice in this way: Invite the non-human to come before you and say: Your kindness to me is countless. I have eaten your flesh, drunk your blood, gnawed your bones, worn your skin, and drunk your milk, even three thousand worlds would not suffice. I have committed countless acts of killing, beating, and stealing, so now the retribution has come.
