Then go. Then pull and circle with the rope. The long rope is wrapped around the stake, and hung on the peg, making it impossible to move. Similarly, at first, one thinks of practicing Dharma, but because of attachment to food, clothing, etc. in this life, like a stake that has not been pulled out, there seems to always be a situation where one cannot move. It is said that a Geshe named Geshe Sel She died due to sectarian conflict. Geshe Tonpa said, "If my Sel She had died three years ago, it would have been like a Vinaya Pitaka had died, but it is too late to die three years later." His stake was made by the monastery. If one can abandon these three kinds of stakes, large, medium, and small, there is no reason why one cannot achieve Dharma. For a field overgrown with old grass, it is enough to drive it with a yak. He said that it is meaningless to tie a calf with a cow rope. When horses and livestock cross the river, if they are released without hesitation from the beginning, even if the water carries them away, they will not listen to persuasion, and if you push them over, they will push back. Pigs that do not want to get wet, even if you put their mouths in the water, the water will seep out from their pores. Similarly, if you do not forcibly cut off attachment to this life and practice Dharma, then even if you persuade them, they will not want to give up attachment, but will retort. He said that even what you have learned before will disappear. Plowing with a yak only breeds inferior wounds and cannot bear heavy loads. Similarly, if you cannot let go of attachment to this life, you will put yourself and others in pain. If you can relax about this life, you can listen to advice, otherwise you cannot persuade them. The so-called "I Ka" refers to lengthening the sound, etc. It is difficult to make the sound "I" at first. If you can lengthen the beginning, it will be easier later. Similarly, when practicing Dharma, it is difficult to let go of attachment to this life at first. If you can let go once, it will be easier later. Suffering itself is also these desires. Otherwise, they will retort, and we Khampas have no hypocritical sayings. He said that if the holy men can let go of this life, then there is no reason why they cannot achieve Dharma, and this is where the difficulty lies. Although they emphasize unity, we take this as a mantra, and ultimately pursue high positions, resulting in nothing. Also, a bow made of wet wood seems loose at first, but after drying, it becomes stiff and cannot be bent, thereby causing disease. If you split it with a sharp knife, it will be comfortable.

Similarly, in the Compendium Sutra, it says: "Regarding the bejeweled earrings, sons and daughters, if one observes all their clinging minds, the bonds made of mixed iron and wood, the Noble One said, those are not strong bonds. The bonds of desire, even if loosened, the Noble One said, are difficult to completely liberate from." As it is said. As long as there is attachment to the enjoyments of this life, at first it seems loose, but when it comes to the crucial moment, one will not give it up at all, and may even abandon one's own vows. Therefore, to sever the clinging to this life, one must use the sharp sword of wisdom, with the spark of faith. Generally, there are five enjoyments, among which two are food and clothing. And clothing is divided into four or five parts. It is said that the clinging to food is difficult to sever. When fighting a war, if the helmet is uncomfortable, it is not bad to take off the shoes. Should one take off the helmet or the shoes? Place the target far away and then shoot the arrow. After the thieves have fled into the forest, cut off the traces they left behind. Ghosts in the east, offerings in the west. It is said that the reason why one has not attained Dharma is because one has not given up this life. This seems very true. Now, what is it that prevents most of the logicians, meditators, or Kadampas from having their winds dissolve into the central channel? To investigate such a profound question oneself. To investigate by grasping the key points like this is rarer than the stars in the daytime. Rather than pursuing those high realizations that I cannot experience in two days, it would be better to investigate those things that I desperately need now, and I would be happier. For example, it is like someone who is about to die of starvation, goes to the house of a wealthy benefactor, and instead of taking the food and drink that they desperately need now, they take gold and silver hoping it will be useful in the future. The saying "speak a hundred lies," when the Khampas speak, they speak many lies, although they are imposing, that is the meaning. In short, no matter how much one studies, contemplates, and meditates, the reason why one does not attain Dharma is because of the desire for the pleasures of this life. Gentlemen, may you all understand these words of his. Now, we who wish to practice Dharma in this degenerate age, have many teachings, and many transmissions, no matter what is said...
