When asked to do something, he said, "I don't have time. If one person comes, let one person do it. If two people come, let two people do it." Then he made about three hundred robes from books (Poto). After three days, he fell ill and passed away after seven days. It is said that he himself had foreknowledge of his passing. He always stayed in no fixed place, coming and going. There were more than two thousand monks. There were about five hundred people who had given up this life and could remember and recognize impermanence. Gyalsay Rinpoche said, "It's amazing. Now it's hard to find even one." He also said that the one who remembers impermanence, Kharag, is behind Tzi in Phan Yul (present-day Linzhou County, Lhasa). He is like a small practitioner. Khang Kharag lived in a crack in the black rock cave, and there was a pile of nettles at the door. He thought of cutting them off with his worn-out robe. But then he immediately thought, what would I do after cutting them off? I would only be able to walk back and forth, so he didn't cut them off until he passed away. Furthermore, Geshe Sangphupa and Ngok Lekshe, when they heard the word "immortal," said, "Does the Venerable One have bird releases?" When asked to protect the forest of Sangphu, he said, "Even if you don't abandon the ego clinging within, do you still cling to external things?" Sheton Yungdrung Gyatso (Sheton Mishiva), when he heard the word "immortal," said, "There is a profound primordial Dharma. The most profound key instruction is to see and hear everything about death." When people gossiped about Sheton behind his back, he said, "I am here." It is said that this is how remembering death arises. Etc., these two are both disciples of Jowo (Atisha). Ngok Lekshe established Sangphu Monastery. A great scholar and accomplished one appeared. Sheton tamed beings to be tamed in Samye Monastery, and had many great disciples. He told the story of... So, since practicing impermanence is so important and has such great benefits, if you want to divide the points into many aspects to practice, generally, the Kadampa spiritual friends do not make chapters that distinguish the points in detail. However, there are also many people who follow the way that one or two wise people did before. Whether it is thinking or practicing, there is no difference in meaning. It seems that it was in the Lamrim of the great Drolungpa of the past. Now, Master Tsongkhapa and his sons have made chapters on the three roots and the nine reasons. Now...

Ah! In the past, Chag Sopa (Dharma name) met many direct and close disciples of Lord Atisha, such as Naktsopa Lotsawa, and attained accomplishments. Many great disciples such as Gyawa Dulzin appeared. The wise ones who transmitted from them considered that there are three types of impermanence to contemplate: coarse impermanence, subtle impermanence, and sudden impermanence. The first, because it is generally conditioned, is certain to perish; because there is no autonomy, one should contemplate death, these are two. Subtle impermanence, like water flowing down a steep slope, changes impermanently every moment; one should think like a herdsman driving livestock. Sudden impermanence has four types: imbalance of the four elements, disturbance by spirits, both, and sudden death due to factors such as food, clothing, and shelter. That's how they did it. Many other spiritual friends considered that there are two types of impermanence: external impermanence and internal impermanence. The first is external container impermanence and internal content impermanence. Internal impermanence has three types: perishing every moment; continuous impermanence has a lifespan, and it is faster than a shot arrow or a rushing river; sudden impermanence includes the exhaustion of lifespan, the exhaustion of karma, the exhaustion of merit, and sudden death due to negligence, these four. My guru (my guru, Je Khedrup, Dharma name Gelek Palzangpo), was the lord of Lato Jang, proficient in all Dharma, was the unparalleled successor of Master Tsongkhapa, established Riwo Dangchen Monastery, served as the abbot of Nyangto Changra Palkhor Chode Monastery and Gelug monasteries, and had many disciples. He passed away at Ganden Monastery at the age of fifty-seven. He said: When cultivating the objects of focus such as impermanence, one should have the seven-point posture of Vairochana. One must clearly define the nature, order, and number of the objects to be cultivated. One must make a strong determination not to let the mind wander elsewhere. From the beginning, one must cultivate as if controlling a mind that has already run away, without letting bad thoughts arise. Therefore, I think that when practicing death and impermanence, the number and order of the objects of practice are very important, so I wrote it down like this. Dromtonpa said: One should think without disturbing the order as it is recorded in this document, and grasp the essentials.
