Even holding political power can benefit oneself and others. Otherwise, if your desires are deeply rooted like a nail, then holding political power is meaningless. Acharya Aryadeva said in the Four Hundred Verses: 'Whoever finds it difficult to abandon this world, is more foolish than others. Those who follow after it, will be greatly deceived for a long time.' This means that by practicing the Dharma well, one can be happier than others in this life. If one does not even understand this much, then one is foolish or idiotic, and such a person will ruin themselves and others. Therefore, it is very important to practice the Dharma well and reach a state of happiness. Master Shantideva said: 'By the conduct of non-distraction, having obtained the supreme Dharma, one also obtains the happiness never before obtained, and will never decline from happiness. The inexhaustible supreme bliss of the complete Bodhicitta, and also obtain the unparalleled and perfect Buddhahood.' This is what is said at the beginning of the Compendium of Trainings. The Blessed One also said: In the Chapter on Specific Statements: 'If you want all happiness, then completely abandon all desires. If you completely abandon all desires, then you will attain the supreme happiness. As long as one follows desires, one will never be satisfied. Those who have wisdom as their antidote, they will obtain satisfaction. Desires will never be satisfied, but wisdom will generate satisfaction. A person satisfied with wisdom will not become a slave to samsara.' Arya Asanga also said: 'The happiness of living in the realm of wisdom, enjoying the wealth of Dharma, cannot be compared to the happiness of enjoying fine drinks, women, songs, and dances.' How is this so? The happiness derived from enjoying food and drink, etc., does not pervade the entire body, and it depends on external conditions, so it does not arise as one wishes, it only happens occasionally, it is not present in all three realms, and one cannot obtain the wealth of the noble ones in the future, it is exhausted by enjoyment, enemies, etc., can cut off its continuation, it cannot be taken to the next life, relying on it will never be complete, satisfied, or content, and it will generate all the suffering of this life and the next, like the pleasure of a leper scratching, it is suffering.

Peace is just a name for happiness, it generates afflictions such as desire, and it generates misconduct such as killing. The happiness that comes from the enjoyment of Dharma pervades the whole body, arises whenever desired, is present in all three realms, obtains the wealth of the noble ones, increases inexhaustibly with enjoyment, cannot be taken away by enemies, can be carried into the next life, and is satisfied by completion. It does not generate any suffering in this life or the next. Happiness is just a name, because it destroys all afflictions and misconduct, the Dharma is particularly excellent. It was said that Geshe Ewa told someone that he was going to meet a patron, so he prepared the best offerings to offer to the Three Jewels. Later, after thinking about it, he thought that the patron seemed to like beautiful decorations, so he scattered a handful of ashes and said, "Don't stay here like a selfish monk." When Padampa heard this, he said, "Among the happiness of offering to the Three Jewels, the handful of ashes that Ewa Gungyal scattered was the best." There was a yogurt feast at Gyal Lhakhang (place name), and because he was quick with his hands, he scraped the cream off the top. Ewa thought, "Now I can't get butter." When he realized what he was thinking, he scolded himself, turned the bowl upside down, and refused to drink the yogurt, saying, "What are you thinking? Do you still want to drink it now?" He offered all of his meager possessions to Gyal Lhakhang, and then lived as a beggar, practicing the Dharma. Once, in upper Phenyul (place name), there were many robberies and thefts, and people were hiding their possessions or forming defense groups. He heard these sounds, but he had nothing but a broken water jug and a monastic robe. So he put the robe on his shoulder, held the water jug in his hand, and said, "Is there any way other than forming defense groups?" Potowa was very pleased and said, "That's Ewa's defense." Then he sent him a piece of phel, saying, "He's going to die soon, so he needs it to wrap the corpse. We don't need it, so we don't need it." He said, "People who practice the Dharma should be like that. If you're always thinking about hoarding food, tea, and water, you can't practice the Dharma." Drakkarwa also said: Grapa was a direct disciple of Potowa and the first person to compile the scriptures. Takarwa lived in Bokar (place name), was eighty years old, had three hundred monks, the monks, the monks of Phenyul came, the new place for the monks.
