If you wish, on the south side of Black Mountain (Rivo Nagpo Zom), there is my guru Avabhūti. He is your former guru. Go there and request the teachings of the generation stage from him. Receive the teachings that come from the royal palace. When the prince heard the guru's words, he also developed great joy for the guru. After prostrating, he and his entourage set out on the road in the form of a hero. The great king of Nalanda also diligently prepared many riches for me. He escorted them for three yojanas with his entourage. Then, when the king turned back, the prince spoke these words again: Lord of the land, even if you have obtained happiness and prosperity, if you have not conquered the enemy of samsara, you will regret it when you are later bound and taken away by the executioners, so please rely on the wealth of Dharma. Even if we meet for a day or two with good intentions, it is like impermanent guests at a market. Even though you are leaving, do not abandon your love, and please meet again soon in accordance with the Dharma. The king also replied to him: Because of good fortune, meeting today is enough. The minds of the Dharma king and the princes, etc., have departed today, so they are reluctant to part with you, son. However, I pray that we can meet again soon. After that, they went to the south side of Black Mountain (Rivo Nagpo Zom), to the presence of Guru Avadhūti. At that time, the holy and supreme guru was in a bird's nest of a black rock, wearing a black robe, spreading the skin of a black antelope on the ground, hanging a huge rosary around his neck, his body was fat, his belly was very large, his eyes were red, his complexion was slightly bluish, he was abiding in a half-lotus posture without any conceptual thought, gathering all external and internal phenomena into one skull, abiding there without attachment. From afar, he dismounted and prostrated, and when he and his entourage sat before him, the guru stared at him and spoke these words: Has the mountain of pride not collapsed? Have you not been tormented by the dark side? Have you not sunk into the mire of family? Have you not been deceived by the demoness? Have you not wasted the precious leisure and endowment? Where do you, the king's son and your companions, come from? Joining his palms together, he replied to these words: We come from Bengal in the east.

Coming from the golden-crested palace, coming from renouncing attachment to the kingdom and assemblies, coming to seek refuge in the Dharma of samsara, I went to the great monastery of Nalanda. I sought refuge in that cuckoo of wisdom. My father sent me to you, now please save me. Avadhuti said: Although I was born into a royal family, I am very afraid of the accumulation of afflictions and karma, and I abandoned the kingdom like spitting out ashes. Can you practice the conduct of Avadhuti? Kingship and wealth are like a sea of poison, drinking it even a little endangers the life of liberation. Kingship and wealth are like a pit of fire, merely crossing it causes suffering. Go back today, go to the king's palace, look at the faults of the household, and come back quickly. When the prince heard the lama's words, he prostrated with reverence and quickly returned. When the people saw the prince, they shouted for joy and offered songs, dances, and music. When he returned to his own home, the king and queen were overjoyed and asked: O essence of the moon, where did you go? Weren't you tired at all? Didn't you see the faults and give rise to wisdom? They exclaimed with joy: It's good that you've come back. The noble prince replied peacefully: I went to various places to enjoy myself, I went to subdue the enemies of the teachings with skillful means, I went to seek the Buddha as refuge and the lama, I went to the mountains to seek solitary places. Wherever I went, I saw the faults of samsara, and whoever I associated with, I spoke of the faults of samsara. No matter what I do, wisdom does not arise, please give me a chance, I will go to practice the Dharma. The parents replied: Prince, since you are born in samsara, you should protect the kingdom, make offerings to the Three Jewels, satisfy the poor with great compassion, build temples, and always support the Sangha, cultivate love and compassion without partiality. If you do so, you will always be happy. The noble prince replied: Beloved father, please listen to me. I am in this precious golden palace, bound by the essence of silk, without freedom, I am tormented in this palace.
