If one continuously practices without ceasing, and does not generate even the slightest sense of shame or embarrassment, but is content with it, delights in it, and regards it as a virtue, then one should recognize that this is a very strong entanglement. It is said that if these three branches are complete, it is called a very strong entanglement. Furthermore, the *Bodhisattva-bhumi* states: In short, only two causes will cause the vows of a Bodhisattva's discipline to be completely abandoned: completely abandoning the aspiration for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment; and constantly engaging in practices that are like places of defeat with great entanglement. It is said. Furthermore, the *Collected Determinations* states: Abandoning it is generally due to four causes: generating a mind that is definitely different from the mind of taking vows; uttering words with a request to someone who cannot understand; incurring the fault of all or any one of the four dharmas that are like places of defeat; if one incurs the fault of great entanglement with all or any one of the four dharmas that are like places of defeat, then it is said that the vows of a Bodhisattva have been abandoned. It is said that abandoning the aspiration and practicing any one of the four dharmas that are like places of defeat with great entanglement, practicing all four with entanglement of medium or higher degree, generating non-vows that are contrary to the Bodhisattva's vows, and abandoning the training, etc., these five causes the abandonment of vows. If these occur, one should confess, restrain, accumulate, and purify, and then take the vows again. As it is said in the *Twentieth Vow*: One should take the vows again. Practicing any one of the four with medium and small entanglement belongs to the category of misdeeds, and if one generates a slight sense of shame and embarrassment towards any of those dharmas, and if one stops when persuaded by others, this is medium entanglement. One should confess to three or more people, as it was said earlier: Medium sins are confessed to three. If one generates great shame towards any of those dharmas, and even if one is not persuaded by others, one quickly stops oneself, this is small entanglement. These and the forty-four misdeeds that will be discussed below should be confessed to one or more people.

Furthermore, it says: "From that very text, 'Before one, the remaining ones.'" Similarly, in the Twenty Verses on Vows, it says, "Do not offer three to the Three Jewels." Like this and so on, the forty-four transgressions, depending on the power of intention, some become afflicted, some become unafflicted, and some become without downfall. If there is no object of confession for these, they are purified by confessing with one's own mind. As it says before, "Afflicted or unafflicted, like my own mind." Moreover, if one is motivated by great love and compassion and sees that it will definitely bring great benefit to others, then acting accordingly will mostly become without downfall. As it says in that very text, "Possessing compassion and for the sake of love, there is no fault in a virtuous mind." This is what is said. What should be learned are the three trainings, which are the three types of discipline. From the Bodhisattva Grounds, "Those three types of discipline, when summarized, are the three activities of a Bodhisattva. By the discipline of vows, one abides. By gathering virtuous qualities, one fully ripens one's own Buddha qualities. By the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, one fully ripens sentient beings. The activities of a Bodhisattva are exhausted in these three. That is, abiding in the mind for the sake of being happy in this life, fully ripening the Buddha qualities without tiring body and mind, and fully ripening sentient beings. The discipline of a Bodhisattva is exhausted in these." As it says, all the Bodhisattva's trainings are included in these three, so one should strive to learn these three. Furthermore, for oneself and others, one should accomplish and encourage others to accomplish virtuous deeds that, even if they are painful in this life, will ultimately be beneficial in the future. If something is beneficial and brings happiness in both this life and the next, one should accomplish it. If something brings happiness in this life but ultimately becomes a cause of suffering in the future, one should abandon it and encourage others to abandon it. From the Twenty Verses on Vows, "For others and also for oneself, even if it is suffering, whatever is beneficial, benefits and happiness should be done, and what is not beneficial should not be done." This is what is said. Therefore, all that should be abandoned and all that should be cultivated should be well understood from texts such as the Bodhisattva Grounds, and in all circumstances, with mindfulness and awareness.
