One must properly train in the three trainings. That is, one cannot be without the basis of the other two trainings, and one must train in the training of higher morality. That is, with regard to the causes of downfall, such as ignorance, one must carefully examine them with mindfulness and awareness, and first ensure that no downfall occurs. If it does occur, one must properly confess and take vows, and not associate with the downfall for a long time. Therefore, one should strive to meditate on the antidote to the strongest affliction, so as not to be defiled by downfall, and whatever work or activity one does, one should not contradict the Buddha's teachings, and do something that one does not feel ashamed of. Je Rinpoche also said, "If you do not strive to contemplate the faults of the truth of suffering, you will not be weary of seeking liberation as it is. If you do not contemplate the order of engagement in the truth of the origin and cyclic existence, you will not know how to cut the root of cyclic existence. Therefore, it is important to cultivate weariness of arising from existence and to know what binds one to cyclic existence." Therefore, when a thought arises of wanting to escape from cyclic existence, like a person trapped in a burning house wanting to escape from that house, it indicates that the practice of mind on the path of the intermediate being has left its mark. Third, training the mind on the path of the great being: In this way, even if one attains only the state of liberation by practicing the three trainings of the path, that is not enough. Even if one attains the state of liberation, and no longer needs to wander in cyclic existence, one has only abandoned one aspect of faults and perfected one aspect of qualities, and has not attained the ultimate goal of self-benefit. For this reason, the work of benefiting others can only be accomplished partially. Therefore, one must strive to attain the state of Buddhahood, which is the ultimate benefit of both. Attaining Buddhahood is not for oneself alone, but for the benefit of all sentient beings. Just as one is drowning in the ocean of suffering, sentient beings are also tormented by suffering and are very pitiful. Moreover, there is not a single sentient being who has not been one's parents. They have been one's parents countless times and have nurtured oneself with kindness. Therefore, in order to liberate these kind benefactors from suffering and place them in the unsurpassed state of non-abiding nirvana, one should generate the supreme bodhicitta. That is, from cause and effect, etc.

It is necessary to generate Bodhicitta through the seven-branch (cause and effect) method. These seven branches are: first, recognizing all sentient beings as mothers, from which arises the remembrance of the kindness of all those beings. From that, repaying the kindness. From that, a pleasing mind. From that, love and compassion that can evoke excellent intentions. From that, pure excellent intention. From that, the mind of enlightenment (Bodhicitta). From that, the seven links from which omniscience arises. Before these, it is also necessary to cultivate equanimity towards all sentient beings. If there is partiality towards sentient beings, with some being close and others distant, the wisdom of seeing all sentient beings as mothers, complete with its characteristics, will not arise. Even if a little love and compassion arise, it will be biased. Therefore, one must first cultivate equanimity. The way to do this is to first focus on the many sentient beings who have neither helped nor harmed in this life. From their perspective, the desire for happiness and the aversion to suffering are the same. From one's own perspective, these beings are all relatives who have been one's parents, so one should not discriminate, favoring some with closeness and help, while distancing others with harm. One should cultivate equanimity towards all these beings. Then, one should treat one's close relatives in this life, and even those sentient beings who have caused harm in this life, with equanimity. From this, one should generate equanimity towards all sentient beings. Once this equanimity has arisen, since samsara has no beginning or end, neither does my life have a beginning or end. Because of this, there is no such thing as "I was not born in such a place" or "I was not done by such a sentient being." The number of times it has happened is countless. Therefore, except for not recognizing them due to the transmigration of birth and death, there is no one in the realm of sentient beings who has not been one's parent. When they were one's parents, they nurtured with kindness like one's mother in this life, and all were kind. How did one's mother in this life nurture with kindness? When my current mother was carrying me in her womb, she avoided heavy work and other things to avoid harming me. After I was born, she placed me on a soft cloth cushion, held me on the tips of her ten fingers, looked at me with loving eyes, greeted me with a joyful smile, fed me with affectionate milk, kept me close to the warmth of her body, tasted the food with her tongue, wiped my nose with her mouth, and wiped away the uncleanliness with her hands. The mother considered even things that were vital to her own life less important than the suffering caused by even a slight illness in her child.
