What are the intense and prolonged sufferings in the three lower realms? What are the sufferings of birth, old age, sickness, and death for humans? What are the sufferings of death, transference, and falling in the six desire realms? And so on, as taught in the scriptures, in the two upper realms, there is the suffering of being intoxicated by samadhi, lacking the wisdom of Dharma, and abiding without independence. In short, with eyes of compassion, look upon all beings who suffer in various ways from the three kinds of suffering. Those who are tormented by the suffering of the three lower realms, the suffering of change for humans and desire gods, and the suffering of conditioned phenomena in the upper realms. Thinking about the root that gives rise to these sufferings—the causes of karma and afflictions—generate compassion, wishing for all beings to be liberated from these sufferings. And diligently train in the mind that desires to attain the great Bodhicitta that is brought about by this. As it is said in the sutra: "A Bodhisattva should not train in many Dharmas; they should train in one Dharma. What is it? Great compassion." Therefore, secondly, the main practice is: Having trained well in the objects and aspects of loving-kindness and compassion, generate the precious Bodhicitta with the vow never to turn back from the precious Bodhicitta. That is, until enlightenment is attained, take the aspiring Bodhicitta through the ritual with a mind that does not give up for even a moment, and you must train in the fifth precept that will appear below. The actual taking of the aspiring mind through the ritual should be learned from others. Thirdly, entering the part that includes the precepts has five points: training in remembering the benefits, training in cultivating Bodhicitta, training in accumulating the two accumulations, training in not abandoning sentient beings, and training in how to adopt and abandon the eight black and white dharmas. The first point is: As mentioned before, the merits or benefits of generating the mind that aspires to enlightenment in this way, through ritual, are immeasurable. That is, in the Sutra of the Arrayed Tree, it says: "Son of good family, the mind of enlightenment is like the seed of all the Buddha's teachings, it is like the field that causes all the white dharmas of all beings to increase." And so on, with more than two hundred examples, to Bodhisattva Norzang, the regent
