Because that (referring to the previous text) has been greatly prohibited with utmost effort, the secret and wisdom-gnosis empowerments should not be received by lay practitioners who observe celibacy and those who abide by the precepts of any of the five classes of monastics, nor should they personally receive them themselves. Then, what faults did you see that you prohibited celibates, etc., from receiving these two empowerments? If those individuals were to personally grasp and receive these two empowerments, etc., because they abide in the asceticism of celibacy and the vows of ordination, they would be engaging in what the Teacher has prohibited. Therefore, the asceticism of celibacy and the vows of ordination would be lost, and for those who uphold the discipline, there would be defeats and root downfalls similar to defeats. Moreover, those who have fallen due to downfalls will certainly fall into the three lower realms. Therefore, the accomplishment of siddhis will never be possible. Jowo (the Venerable One) himself said, "The secret and wisdom-gnosis empowerments are not given by those who practice celibacy as the path to liberation, nor should disciples receive them. That is the cause of exhausting celibacy and destroying the Buddha's teachings. The teacher and disciple will undoubtedly go to hell." So it is said. Third, if one has not received the above two empowerments, whether it is permissible to listen to tantric explanations, etc., the need to dispel this doubt: If those who observe celibacy cannot personally receive these two empowerments, then will they lose the qualification to practice tantra? There is no fault. Because for all the four classes of tantras, such as Kriya, disciples listen, teachers explain, and together they perform fire offerings, sacrifices, consecrations, empowerments, etc., and the teacher has attained or received the empowerment along with the retinue, and for those who understand the ten suchnesses, there is no fault. Third, on what basis was it started? The crown jewel of all eighteen schools, having taken full ordination, the lineage of vows was maintained purely and uninterruptedly for more than thirty years. Therefore, the great elder Marme Dzepa (Dīpaṃkaraśrījñāna, 982-1054) from the sutras and so on, as well as the tantras and instructions of the teachings.

Having made corrections. Because it was seen as it is explained in the sacred Dharma, and also, Lharig Geshe Jangchub Ö (lha rig dge slong byang chub 'od), who bears the responsibility of the teachings in Tibet, requested, "For the sake of the general teachings, please bestow a treatise that becomes the chariot of the Great Vehicle," relying on this, this explanation of the stages of the Great Vehicle path, which proceeds from the ground of the beginner to the supreme enlightenment, is also, as it is said, "This life is short, the appearance of knowledge is abundant, the length of life, no one can know, like a swan taking milk from water, it is best to follow one's own wishes." In that way, abandoning the vast elaboration of refutation and establishment, only that part which becomes the condition for accomplishing the practice of seeking omniscience without any deficiency, has been done concisely. Fourth, the meaning of the conclusion has two parts: who composed it and who translated it. The first is, this treatise called "A Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment" was completed by the great scholar, the glorious Dipamkara Śrījñāna, who is the crown jewel of the five hundred paṇḍitas, with great compassion for the benefit of countless fortunate disciples. That's how it is. The second is, the Indian abbot Dīpaṃkara Śrījñāna, and the Tibetan translator, the eye of the world, the monk Gewei Lodrö (dge slong dge ba'i blo gros), translated it from Sanskrit into Tibetan, and after making corrections to the words and meanings, they engaged in teaching and studying it. The footsteps of all the Sugatas of the ten directions, the single path of the Bodhisattvas, this excellent treatise that perfects the teachings, may those who desire liberation enjoy it as the essence of their hearts. May we be cared for by virtuous friends in all lifetimes, and having entered this pure and excellent path, may the supreme Bodhicitta arise, be stable, and increase further, may the ocean of excellent conduct be completely fulfilled. May the intention and power of the aspiration of the glorious Dipamkara, the stages of the path to enlightenment, be completed in our minds and others without difficulty, and may the two purposes be spontaneously accomplished in this life. For this great and well-known treatise, it would be good to make a contribution of commentary like this, as the venerable and omniscient Lama Kunchyen Chenpo (kun mkhyen brtse ba chen pos) permitted, following the Tubten (thub bstan) without sectarian bias.
