Therefore, by training in the three trainings, body, speech, and mind become pure. Therefore, completely purifying what is to be abandoned and perfecting the side of the antidote is the fruit of unsurpassed enlightenment. Bodhisattvas who aspire to attain this for the sake of others, with the vows of the three trainings, primarily the training in moral discipline, should strive diligently with great respect, endowed with mindfulness, awareness, and conscientiousness. Thus, the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, which are the cause of complete enlightenment, will be perfected. Second, regarding how to train in the training of the mind, there are two aspects: training in calm abiding (shamatha) as the cause for the arising of clairvoyance, and the actual way to train in calm abiding. First: Thus, these two accumulations, the nature of merit and wisdom, are the special cause for being complete and ultimate. All Buddhas of the three times consider that I generate the six clairvoyances. Accomplishing pure benefit for others also depends on clairvoyance. For example, a bird whose wings are not fully developed cannot fly in the sky. Similarly, because of lacking the power of clairvoyance, one cannot accomplish great benefit for sentient beings in accordance with their capacity. As it is said in the Sutra: "Subhuti, for example, a bird without wings cannot fly in the sky." Similarly, a Bodhisattva who does not rely on clairvoyance cannot teach the Dharma to sentient beings; one who has entered a wrong path cannot lead sentient beings onto the right path. Furthermore, with the clairvoyance of miraculous power, one can go to the Buddha-fields and the fields where those to be tamed are located. With telepathy, one understands the dispositions and thoughts of others as they are. With the divine ear, one understands their languages. With knowledge of former lives, one understands the causes of the past. With the divine eye, one knows what will happen in the future. With the exhaustion of defilements, one shows the path of liberation, causing beings to aspire to the three vehicles and causing them to ripen and be liberated. Furthermore, for Bodhisattvas who rely on the same basis, the Bodhisattva who possesses clairvoyance, by diligently practicing day and night, accumulates a collection of merit of such a nature, compared to one who is without clairvoyance.

It is not to be found even in hundreds of thousands of kalpas. This also represents the accumulation of wisdom. Therefore, those who desire to quickly attain complete enlightenment and complete the two accumulations need to generate the means of clairvoyance. However, its cause requires great effort with intense diligence, then the six clairvoyances can be achieved. If controlled by laziness, it cannot be achieved, so diligence must be initiated. If you ask what cause to strive for? If the abiding that is not properly accomplished is not possessed by pure pliancy, then the special clairvoyance arising from the power of cultivation will not arise. Therefore, in order to accomplish abiding, one must repeatedly strive for the means of the nine abidings of the mind. Second, how to learn the actual method of abiding is divided into three: the resources on which abiding relies, how to practice abiding, and the benefits of practice. First, if you ask whether abiding can be achieved by diligence alone? No, because the limbs and resources of abiding are completely damaged, even if one strives diligently with intense diligence and cultivates for many years or even thousands of kalpas, one will not be able to achieve the samadhi of abiding. Thus, if the limbs are damaged, abiding cannot be achieved, therefore, one should dwell well and practice the limbs as described in the Sutra Chapter on Samadhi and the Hearer Grounds, etc., then one can generate samadhi. Second, those who thus abide in the resources of abiding should focus their minds on virtue on any one of the objects of meditation that come from the reliable sutras and treatises spoken by the Buddhas, without being distracted elsewhere, and abide with one mind. Third, as previously stated, if a yogi who strives constantly like a stream of water achieves abiding, then not only can various clairvoyances arise from its practice, but also non-conceptual wisdom can be achieved. As Jowo (Atisha) said: "Clairvoyance increases power, in order to generate the undefiled path, one should first cultivate abiding." Third, learning the study of wisdom is divided into two.
