As stated in the Sutra of Displaying Arrangements, similarly, it should be clearly written in this treatise. This is a commitment to explain specifically. Second, regarding the generation of bodhicitta and the manner of taking vows from that sutra, there are two: the generation of bodhicitta and the manner of taking vows. The first is: In the presence of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the protectors of all sentient beings, one generates the mind of unsurpassable, perfectly complete enlightenment, specifically for the sake of all beings reaching the limits of space, treating them as guests or for their benefit. Rescuing those beings who have not crossed the river of suffering of samsara, and liberating those who have not been freed from the bonds of afflictions. Not cutting off breath with self-view, but giving breath with the path of truth; establishing them in the peace beyond conceptualization with the cessation of truth, and treating them as guests. Sharawa believes that this shows the preliminary practice of entering and the actual practice of aspiration. Second, regarding the manner of taking vows, there are three: vowing to abstain from misdeeds, benefiting sentient beings, and undertaking the precepts of accumulating virtuous dharmas. The first is: Relying on any of the nine causes that torment the mind, from the day of taking the vows until one has not attained unsurpassable enlightenment, one should not generate harmful thoughts such as wanting to kill out of hatred, nor the mind of anger that immediately disturbs others' minds, nor stinginess in being unable to give possessions to others, nor jealousy in being unable to bear others' perfections. One should practice celibacy, abandoning sexual intercourse involving the union of two organs, and one should abandon sinful actions and attachment to the objects of desire that are their cause. One should rejoice in the pure precepts of abandoning these, and one should train well in the holy conduct of the Buddhas. The second is: In one's own quick manner, that is, without delighting in or rejoicing in attaining enlightenment, for the sake of benefiting one sentient being, one will abide for as long as samsara exists, without end in future lives. The third is: If one wonders what one does after abiding in this way, it is that the numbers are incalculable and inconceivable.

With the Buddha's pure lands, may all faults such as cliffs and thorns be completely purified. Once beings hear my name, and also through seeing, hearing, remembering, and touching, I wish to benefit sentient beings. Therefore, in all ten directions of pure lands, by making my name famous and abiding, may I also purify and ripen the sentient world. Beginners must cherish the vows of discipline, so it is repeated again: My actions of body, speech, and mind should be pure and undefiled by downfalls in all circumstances; the actions of mind should also be purified from downfalls. In short, one should never commit non-virtuous actions of the three doors until one attains enlightenment. Third, after taking vows, it is shown how to train in the precepts, which is divided into three: training in discipline, training in mind, and training in wisdom. The first part is divided into two points: the main text and its greatness. The main text is: So, what is the cause of purifying the three doors? The reason is that the bodhisattva's own body, speech, and mind are completely purified from downfalls, and for the sake of greatly benefiting other sentient beings, one abides in the vows of the nature of the mind that enters the Mahayana lineage. Regarding the object—the three trainings of discipline—if one trains diligently in accordance with the precepts, through the power of habituation, one will cherish the previously mentioned three trainings of discipline even more, and one's respect will increase. Among them, the word "good" has three meanings: purity, non-retrogression, and completeness. Therefore, training in the discipline of vows is pure like a man with a handsome appearance; training in the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, because one does not regress or decline from perfect enlightenment, it is like a plague being completely cured; training in the discipline of gathering good dharmas is like a vase being perfectly filled. The meaning of the word Bodhisattva Mahasattva also comes from these three, that is, through the discipline of vows, all faults are purified, through the discipline of gathering good dharmas, all qualities are perfected, and through the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, one becomes a great hero. So it is said. The second is, discipline.
