With awareness and so on, settle evenly and equally in the state of self-illuminating emptiness. This is the key to realizing the selflessness of the object and the apprehended awareness. Guidance step one hundred and twenty-three. Then, the teaching on emptying the root of inner clinging: Examine and measure the nature of the mind that measures as object and subject, past and future, real and unreal, the three sources of arising, shape, color, and so on. When you search and find nothing anywhere, then loosely release the supportless awareness into the state of non-grasping. This will make you realize that the clinging to "I" and "mine" is emptiness. Guidance step one hundred and twenty-four. Then, meditating on union: Previously, you meditated on calm abiding separately, but here you mix them together and meditate. The preliminaries are the same as before. The main part is to let whatever appears settle naturally without analysis. Relax comfortably, be clear without traces, be wide open, and rest freely without limits. At that time, a realization like the sky, without inside or outside, will arise. Remaining is calm abiding, clarity is insight, and being without difference is union, spontaneously accomplished in the nature of one. Guidance step one hundred and twenty-five. Then, there are three ways to meditate for those of medium capacity. The way to meditate on emptiness like the sky is: The body does not move, like the king of mountains, arrange the seven aspects of Vairocana's posture. The senses are not blocked, and the self-illumination is clear, like the reflection of the moon in a pond. Whatever appears, do not dwell on that appearance, but on the basis of emptiness, openly and clearly without inside or outside, like a hollow sound, restrain the way of looking and settle. Then, you will realize that everything is emptiness, like the boundless sky. Guidance step one hundred and twenty-six. Then, the way to meditate on clarity like a mirror: The body posture and sensory posture are the same as before. Do not focus on emptiness, but in the state of self-illuminating non-grasping of appearances, gently shake and slightly move, and meditate with ease. Then, a realization will arise that appearances are without grasping, like taxes being naturally released. Guidance step one hundred and twenty-seven. Then, the way to meditate on arising like waves: The body and sensory posture are the same as before. The difference is that you focus on the arising of thoughts of scattering and gathering from within awareness. Then, a realization will arise that is supportless and releases without grasping, like waves dissolving into water. Guidance step one hundred and

This is the one hundred and twenty-eighth instruction. Then, the meditation of the superior faculty is like a continuous river, like the course of a clear stream. Because awareness is realized as the Dharmakaya, arising and scattering become the play of Dharma-nature. Without any rejection or acceptance, and without any error or obscuration, everything arises as the practice of realization. Just as when one goes to the precious golden island, one cannot find ordinary earth and stones even if one searches for them. Whatever arises in the mind arises as self-born wisdom, so clinging and conceptualization do not go beyond the intention of Kuntuzangpo (Samantabhadra). Whatever appears as objects appears as the self-nature of emptiness, so grasping and conceptualization do not go beyond the vast expanse of Kuntuzangmo (Samantabhadri). All phenomena that cling to objects and mind as different are extinguished in the realm of non-duality, the Great Perfection. Without outer and inner, it arises as the expanse of wisdom. Without above and below, it is equal to the vast expanse. Without direction or boundary, it arises as self-born wisdom. Without direction or distinction, it arises as the play of Dharma-nature. Without self and other, it goes into the state of reality. Without place or time, it arrives in the primordial expanse. The yogi who has exhausted the mind, in the state of exhausting phenomena, even thinking is a time of bliss. Recognizing this realization as uninterrupted, throwing awareness out nakedly, presenting the knowledge that is empty, open, naked, and soaring. Make a decision in the true state of not cultivating the natural state, and begin to practice. This is the one hundred and twenty-ninth instruction. Next is a special explanation of the distinctions of skillful means: The first two meditation methods only serve to show the final step of help and practice. For this, there are four repetitions of Shamatha-Vipassana combined. The first also has two types: practicing Shamatha and increasing its benefits. The first has two objects of focus: with signs and without signs. In the case of with signs, the mind is held on external objects with signs, such as painted images (Thangkas), as mentioned before. The internal with signs is when awareness is too scattered and cannot remain, visualize a white lotus or vajra cross, etc., inside the heart, with its roots going down, from bottom to top, all the way to the great powerful golden ground, so that awareness is stabilized. Grasp the mind, gather it in the heart, and meditate with one-pointedness, and non-conceptualization will arise. This is the one hundred and thirtieth instruction. Next is grasping onto the object of focus without signs.
