Become relatives. The lowest should contemplate impermanence of death, repeatedly supplicate the Lama, frankly inform friends, and diligently accomplish Samadhi. One should rely on the Lama, the virtuous spiritual friend. In general, for all three, the highest, intermediate, and lowest, one should generate the perception of the Lama as the actual Buddha and constantly offer prayers. Towards all sentient beings, without partiality, one should cultivate loving-kindness and compassion with the perception of them as one's parents. The diligence in practice should be without distraction. If one forcefully cuts off all attachment to this life's happiness, fame, food, wealth, and relatives, then great qualities will surely arise quickly. In the "Lamp of Practice," it says: Profound teachings, Lama, accomplished companions, comparing views and offerings, contemplating impermanence and death, generating diligence, holding onto the recollection of the nature of reality, relying on secret conduct as a means, the instructions for the bliss of the winds, cultivating impartial compassion, the key points of the instructions and wisdom, training the power of awareness and extracting experiences. Thus it is said. Secondly, the example of arising Samadhi is: For example, when a fearful person is walking on a road, it is like seeing one's own homeland and not having the perception of fear. Therefore, the example of reaching the ultimate of view and meditation, without hope and fear, is not what is meant here. Rather, it is an example of taking a breath in the stage of arising realization. The highest is realizing that appearance and mind are inseparable, realizing the Dharmakaya, so there is no fear of relying on the continuous efforts of the lower vehicles. The intermediate is that awareness abides in its own clarity, without the fear of dullness, agitation, or scattering. The lowest is that the body and mind abide single-pointedly in a state of joy and bliss, so one can take a breath. Thirdly, indicating the signs of arising Samadhi, the root verses say: Disgust with the things of Samsara, compassion arises for sentient beings, not clinging to one's own place, wanting to go to a distant other place. Therefore, the signs of warmth are outer, inner, and secret. The secret sign is, in the "Lamp of Practice," it says: Seeing the five signs of the winds, the appearance of eight powers and other experiential appearances, there may be a slight shaking. This is because the mind and wind are inseparable and stable, so when the mind abides, the wind also stabilizes. The winds are the five winds of earth, water, fire, wind, and space, which are in the left, right, and central channels.

Secondly, to indicate that the five twos, which make ten, operate within it, in the yogi's visions, appearances such as smoke with uncertain colors, mirage-like appearances of water, fireflies and sparks like fire, like a burning butter lamp from one to many, like a cloudless sky with uncertain size, white, red, yellow shimmering, like a darkness without appearance, with the light of the sun and moon, without light, half and half, the space filled with gray like a bee's wing, any of the five colors of light spots, like a stretched rope of light rays, seeing any of the five lights. In the Lamp of Experience it says: The five signs of wind, like smoke billowing, like a mirage twisting, like a firefly moving red, like a butter lamp flickering red, appearing like the sun rising in the sky. The eight forceful appearances also appear: feeling like traveling in a boat, the appearance turning dark, the sky filled with dust, light blazing in the sky, body and elements disappearing, mind itself clear, empty, and pure, seeing a mirror adorned with stars. Thus it says. Furthermore, the mind is the basis of all samsara and nirvana, therefore, all the habitual imprints of knowledge from beginningless time are in the alaya consciousness, and on this body produced by the alaya consciousness, all the seeds of appearance and existence, samsara and nirvana, appear in the form of letters on the knot of the channels, within which the interdependent arising of wind and mind is contained. The outer vessel and inner essence, the six classes of beings, inanimate and animate, and so on, various shapes and colors, whatever is possible can appear. Since this is the experiential appearance of a yogi's meditation, one should not be attached or averse to any good or bad phenomena, but should focus the mind on the experiential appearance itself and blend appearance and mind together. In the Lamp of Experience it says: The vast places of the six realms and the entry of wind, various habitual imprints from beginningless time, because mind itself manifests anything, therefore, various appearances of the six realms, gods and goddesses, gardens and pure lands, the suffering in the three lower realms, the appearances of gods and humans in the desire realm, the meditations of the form and formless realms.
