When experiencing intense illnesses and the like, one maintains equanimity towards both happiness and suffering. The body feels light and comfortable, and the mind effortlessly abides in samadhi. As stated in the 'Lamp of Experience': 'Warmth is as light as cotton; the body gains great endurance; the elements are balanced, and one's own body experiences increased well-being; free from agitation and doubt; clarity remains unwavering in its object.' Thus it is. The external sign is the realization that all phenomena are self-manifestations of the mind. Grasping and being grasped dissolve on their own. Attachment and aversion dissolve without a basis. One no longer clings to one's own food and clothing, engages in biased disputes with others, or pursues the activities of the eight worldly concerns, such as seeking profit and fame. Unbiased compassion and altruism arise towards all sentient beings. As stated in the 'Lamp of Experience': 'Samadhi, with its wind controlled and warmth present, diminishes the perception of food and clothing. Afflictions, ego-grasping, partiality, and all considerations of the eight worldly concerns, such as attachment and aversion, become extremely small and subtle. Astonishment arises at delusion, and immeasurable great compassion arises.' Thus it is. In dreams, signs of purifying obscurations appear, such as extracting filth and bathing. Signs of liberation from the lower realms appear, such as emerging from dark caves and swamps. Signs of seeing the truth appear, such as light emanating from oneself and illuminating existence. Signs of seeing the faces and hearing the voices of one's yidam deities appear. Although these are said to occur, if one rejoices in them and clings to them as real, it is said that one will go to Mara. Therefore, one should understand all appearances as illusions of one's own mind. As stated in the 'Secret Lamp': 'Knowing all as mind, Mara finds no opportunity.' Thus it is. Furthermore, for a yogi who has not yet attained stainless realization but has good experiences with the channels and elements, various experiences arise during the day and in dreams. If one clings to these as good or bad and believes them to be real, one will come under the control of Mara. If one has no attachment or aversion to anything and knows all appearances as unreal, it is a sign of the path. The noble one said: 'Signs should be understood in two ways. The external signs are the eighteen characteristics of Mara, namely: seeing Buddhas and Bodhisattvas; oneself listening to the Dharma in a retinue; oneself appearing as a holy being and teaching the Dharma to a retinue; being able to traverse countless eons in an instant; being able to teach all the tantras without obstruction; seeing the sentient beings of the six realms; and their'

Knowing the lifespan and good and bad deeds, generating a compassionate mind towards them and wishing to be of help, a great light emanating from one's body day and night, unimpeded by mountains and walls, being able to fly in the sky, the Buddhas of the ten directions placing their hands on one's head and bestowing empowerment, being able to prophesy, being able to go anywhere one wishes without obstruction, being able to teach the Dharma in the languages of all sentient beings, powerful deities such as gods and nagas respecting oneself and carrying out one's commands, and being able to understand the languages of all sentient beings. If these are taken as signs, then it is the work of demons. Why? Because when one clings to signs, demons seek opportunities; when one does not cling, they find no opportunity. The eight great signs of inner qualities are: even when speaking equally with the Buddha, there is no arrogance; even when seeing all the realms of the world in an instant, there is no boasting; even when the king of demons comes, there is no fear; even when seeing heavenly maidens, there is no attachment; even when abiding in the inconceivable nature of reality, the ten practices of Dharma are not interrupted; in all activities, one is inseparable from samadhi; even when enjoying the five desirable qualities, there is no clinging; even when suffering arises, it becomes a support for samadhi. As it is said, one should understand accordingly. Fourth, the result: The root text says, "Such a yogi, when the five elements dissolve, obtains the great Vidyadhara of the gods, at that time, he becomes enlightened." This has two aspects: The causal result is: As explained above, without separation from the unwavering realization, reaching its culmination, when the yogi's life ends, the clear light of the bardo welcomes him, he is born from the clear light of the present, and the clear light of death connects them, the mother and child clear lights merge, and in an instant, he attains enlightenment. The level of intermediate realization is: The cause for taking aggregates, karma and afflictions are naturally liberated, without taking rebirth, one becomes the Vidyadhara of the gods. "God" refers to the pure awareness free from dualistic grasping, not abandoning grasping, the stainless awareness free from dualistic grasping arises as samadhi, its power is perfected, and one attains Buddhahood, as emphasized by Dharma Lord Tsangpa Gyare. Finally: A little mind of calm abiding.
