If views become scattered, all the warm signs of samadhi gradually disappear, and ultimately one will fall into the lower realms. Therefore, it is very important to protect all vows without fail. As it is said in the scriptures: Outer and inner vows, the nature of the aggregates and four elements reside. Secondly, if there is too much intense thought during meditation, it is like muddy water. Even if one meditates for a long time, the turbidity of samadhi will not clear, so one should observe the nature of the mind, the dharmadhatu, with awareness without distraction. As it is said in the scriptures: The nature of non-appearance, if left unsearched, is meditation. If one searches for this and that, then this and that will not appear. Thirdly, even if samadhi is very clear, after a long time, due to the weakness of previous habits, dullness and excitement arise but cannot be recognized. Unrecognized awareness becomes a condition for growth, so that one cannot see the truth. Because mindfulness and diligence are weak, keep the samadhi at a level that is not tiring, rest and recover, and then meditate. Fourthly, due to the power of the yogi's samadhi and the waves of view, phenomena and existence appear as wisdom, and at the time when the warm signs of seeing and meditation appear, arrogance of experience and realization arises, thinking that now I have no obstacles to samadhi. Then one follows worldly gains, noise, desires, respect, and neighbors, and without even giving up the eight worldly concerns, one claims to be a yogi and says without doubt that one will become a Buddha, which is a great mistake. Because the residue of the earth element is not exhausted, one is attached to the body; because the residue of consciousness is not exhausted, greed and hatred arise. Again, these habits are accumulated in the alaya consciousness, so even if one cannot attain the heavenly realms, liberation is out of the question. Therefore, one should always rely on solitary places, cut off worldly relationships, and abandon the burden of the eight worldly concerns. Fifthly, if a yogi develops clairvoyance or subtle qualities, and becomes self-satisfied and boasts to others, this is the work of demons and the cause of all obstacles. Therefore, whatever clairvoyance, miraculous powers, or qualities one has, one should guard them, not boast, hide them, and strive to increase one's qualities. Sixthly, after receiving the first instruction, becoming a Buddha.
