I have spoken about ninety-six or so, which is the actual cause of union. The fifth is: In short, after the illusory body is accomplished, relying on conduct, in the light of the two dhyanas, manifest realization of the two measures, seeing the light of meaning. In brief, after the impure illusory body is accomplished, relying on any of the three conducts, through vidyadhara and subsequent destruction, with the distinction of the two dhyanas, all dharmas are absorbed into emptiness, and repeatedly meditating on light, the aforementioned two measures of manifest realization are perfected, and when the path of seeing arises, one will be able to see the light of meaning. Fifth, explaining the result of union, there are two types: union with learning and union without learning. The first is divided into five points: the way union is accomplished, including the boundaries of rising and entering; the general definition of union; the boundary of attaining Buddhahood; the symbol of the vajra body; the differences of the body and its characteristics. The first point is: From the state of purity of duality, three appearances arise, arising in direct and reverse order, accomplishing union with learning, having rising and entering, abandoning after perfecting the seven bhumis. After obtaining the light of meaning, the body with duality is actually purified into emptiness, and as soon as it arises from that state, appearance is obtained, appearance increases, and appearances occur in direct and reverse order. In the end, the non-dual wisdom body is accomplished, and union with learning is obtained. Again, relying on conduct, the mind enters and rises repeatedly in light, although there is only a difference between equipoise and subsequent attainment, in all circumstances, the mind is inseparable from the bliss-emptiness wisdom, and the body continues uninterruptedly, or because the meaning of union is non-dual, the gross conceptual thoughts of the dualistic grasping and apprehended cease, therefore it is called union. The sign of earth dissolving into water at the time of the path of seeing is like a mirage, and the sign of obtaining the dissolution of light is like the dawn appearing in a cloudless sky, appearing in the order of direct arising between emptiness and clarity, and when rising, appearances also occur in the order of reverse order, and after obtaining union, these will also occur in the rising and entering into light. For example, in the case of the fourth near attainment, a vision like a clear sky will also appear, but after obtaining the light of meaning, the clarity increases.

Besides relating the simile of stillness and immutability, freedom from elaboration, and luminosity-emptiness to the appearance of the sky, do not specifically relate it to the appearance of the sky itself. Because the appearance of wisdom is uninterrupted, it arises limitlessly. At the end of the seventh ground, one enters luminosity and becomes the eighth ground, and from then on, it is impossible to rise from luminosity. The second part has three points: twenty-three unions, thirty-one branches with their retinue, and a brief summary of their meaning. The first point is: Samsara and nirvana, all purified, with and without characteristics, grasping and being grasped, permanence and annihilation, emptiness and compassion. Means and wisdom, with remainder and without remainder, two kinds of selflessness. Illusory body, luminosity, stages of completion, two truths as objects. Sleep and awakening, coemergent stages, existence and non-existence. Memory and non-memory, bliss and emptiness, action and agent. Generation and completion, pure and impure, form and formlessness. Twenty-three unions. Thus it is said. The twenty-three unions from the five stages, and the seventy-odd mentioned in the Condensed Practice, are all characteristics of the wisdom of the stages of union, meaning that one nature possesses all characteristics. Because characteristics are categories of branches, what need is there to say about non-learning wisdom? Even in learning, all characteristics are possessed, and it is the general characteristic of union. That is, realizing that there is no acceptance or rejection in samsara and nirvana is the union of samsara and nirvana. Knowing that the nature of the two, the Dharma of complete affliction and the Dharma of complete purification, is one in bliss and emptiness is the union of complete purification. Form, sound, etc., with characteristics, and space, etc., without characteristics, realizing that the two are originally one emptiness is the union of with and without characteristics. Both grasping and being grasped are realized as emptiness and equality, and in meditative equipoise, the appearance of duality ceases, which is the non-dual union of grasping and being grasped. Abandoning all clinging to the extremes of permanence and annihilation, both innate and imputed, is the non-dual union of permanence and annihilation. All compassion is emptiness, and all emptiness appears as compassion, the nature appearing as one is the union of emptiness and compassion. Abiding in the great bliss of the union of father and mother is the union of father and mother, means and wisdom. Having accomplished the vajra body, being separated from birth and death, therefore the two, with remainder and without remainder, do not exist, which is the union of with remainder and without remainder. Seeing all dharmata as inseparable into the union of self-nature appearance-emptiness, knowing that the individual characteristics of Dharma and person are not established, therefore there is no clinging to it, which is non-
