The root of practice for the Sutra and Mantra paths, the blending of Sutra and Tantra realization, and the later treasures, cutting practices, pure visions, and so on, is related to the four key points mentioned above. Therefore, as a general preliminary for these practices, one accumulates merit through the inner body in an uncommon way, and invokes blessings from the essential points through devotion and supplication. The main practice is to seek the face of the mind by relying on the pursuit of pure awareness, and to show how to settle into a stable state. By relying on opening the door of the sky, the meaning of the Mother is introduced through meaning instruction, and meditation is established through word instruction. Meditation is cultivated through experiential instruction. The way of these is also as stated in the Great Collection of Teachings: "Sit comfortably in your own body, and the mind cannot find the unfindable place. Therefore, rest in a state of non-thought." And: "Everything is self-born mind, so there is no one to meditate. Whatever happens, whatever feelings arise, leave them open, clear, and natural." In general, regarding the way of introduction, there is also the introduction to the sixteen emptinesses from the instructions of "Seeing the Face of the Great Mother," and the introduction to the six perfections from the "Treasure of Cutting the Demon." Furthermore, there are limitless ways of introducing appearances as mind, mind as emptiness, emptiness as co-emergent, and co-emergence as Dharmakaya. In any case, It is said in the Collection of Teachings: "If you have not practiced anything, then that is practice. The name 'practice' is mind-made, there is no experience in the true meaning." As such, in equipoise, maintain the natural state beyond speech, thought, and expression with effortless mindfulness, thereby accomplishing the Dharmakaya in one sitting. It is also said: "If you do not conceptualize anything, then habits will not arise, and the bhumis and paths will be perfected." Afterwards, "Cut off the attachment to objects with obstruction, cut off the attachment to unobstructed mind, cut off the attachment to joy and sorrow, cut off the attachment to the prideful self." As such, cut the four maras in the Dharmadhatu. The three are also included in pride, as stated in the Collection of Teachings: "The mara with obstruction and the mara without obstruction, the mara of joy and sorrow and the mara of pride, the maras are divided into four types, but they are all included in the mara of pride." By what method are they cut? As stated in the former: "Freedom from hope and fear is the best of cutting, abandoning the extremes of rejection and acceptance."

Severance. If the rope of grasping and being grasped is severed, one will definitely go to the state of Buddhahood. Thus it is said. How to sever it? In "Scattered Instructions" it says: For what is difficult to sever, trample upon it without fear. Thus, practice and realization will quickly increase, and abilities and merits will be perfected. Thus it is said. When to sever it? In "Branch" it says: This sacred Dharma of the demon's severance field is different from other instructions. Others only plant seeds for the future, but this one severs in the present. Whether it is severed or not, look to the dangerous place. Others gradually abandon conceptual thoughts, but this one burns them in the present. Thus it is said. Furthermore, in "Illusory Severance" it says: The best is the severance of seeing the nature of reality, the intermediate is the severance of guiding with power, and the lowest is the severance of cutting off conceptual proliferation. These three classifications also appear. Thus, with the yoga of view and meditation, severing on the seat in a dangerous place, taking it into the path of equal taste, in order to forcibly increase practice and realization, one should go to a dangerous place with characteristics in four ways, thereby initiating the path of asceticism. As it says in "Branch": Go to a dangerous place and arouse awareness, experience adverse conditions, from other methods, the fruit is planted in the future, but this one manifests in the present. Thus it is said. Regarding this, first, with the samadhi that subdues the gods and demons of the place, when external gods and demons, intermediate illnesses, and internal conceptual thoughts arise, Machig (Tibetan: མ་ཅིག་) said: Separate matter and awareness, mix the realm of reality and awareness, abide in the state of emptiness, and cast the aggregates of practice as food. Thus, in equipoise, mix the realm of reality and awareness, and in post-meditation, cast the aggregates as food. The first of what is said is, in "Small Treatise" it says: What becomes the supreme method is, in the state of mixing the realm of reality and awareness, negate entities and characteristics. Completely abandon clinging to objects, because of being separated from grasping and being grasped, body and mind are unadorned, like the sky, omnipresent, abide in a vast and expansive state. Thus is the nature of practice. After going to a dangerous place, if the power of gods and demons appears, then separate matter and awareness, the body is like a stone, the mind is like the unreal sky, so who can harm whom? Thinking thus, abide in the nature of reality without fear or hesitation. Thus, as shown in the separate practice. The second is, the post-
